View Full Version : Combining two movies ripped with AutoGK, audio sync/data rate issues with VDub

Hi. I am trying to rip the Lord of the Rings extended edition movies. Since the movies are on two discs each I want to rip both discs for a given movie and then combine them using VirtualDubMod. The problem I have is that no matter what settings I use, the two movies produced with AutoGK (one from each disc) either cannot be joined successfully or the audio is out of sync for the second part only. If I play each half on its own the audio is fine but when I combine them the second part is out of sync but the first part remains in sync. I have tried a wide variety of ripping settings in AutoGK. The closest I've come to making it work is using Quality based rips (50%) and using CBR 128 kbit MP3 for audio. This ensures that the clips are the same resolution and audio bit rate, but the video bit rate is always off which I think is causing the issue. Is there a way to set the video bit rate or any other combination of settings to rip two movies and combine them? Thanks for the help.

Hi!If I play each half on its own the audio is fine but when I combine them the second part is out of sync but the first part remains in sync.1) Keep both original .AVIs "OriginalA" and "OriginalB") in a safe place
2) Make copies of both .AVIs ("CopyA" and "CopyB")
3) Use standard VirtualDub to join "CopyB" to "CopyA" and save with a new filename ("JoinedAandB")- and determine how much out of synch the second half is
4) Use standard VirtualDub to adjust the skew of "CopyB" by the determined out of synch number of milleseconds. Set BOTH "Video" and "Audio" to "Direct Stream Copy" - and save with a new filename ("Adjusted CopyB")
5) Close standard VirtualDub (To reset defaults) and then re-open it.
6) Use standard VirtualDub to join "AdjustedCopyB" to "CopyA" and save with a new filename ("AdjustedJoinedAandB")
Once you're certain that your joined version is in synch throughout, you can delete all files other than "AdjustedJoinedAandB"

Hi-
...but the video bit rate is always off which I think is causing the issue.
Nah, that has nothing to do with it. The problem is that the part1 AVI (and DVD) has longer video than audio. The audio stops before the end of the video by the same amount that the audio is off after the 2 parts are joined. When joined the audio from part2 "slides up" against the end of the part 1 audio, and throws off the synch for the rest of the movie.
Given that you've already created the 2 AVIs, setarip_old's solution is about the best and easiest way to fix the problem. I expect the end of part one has a bunch of black frames, perhaps with some message about putting in the 2nd disc. That part has no audio and is the reason for the problem, and in the future you can decrypt using DVD Decrypter's IFO mode and leave off that cell. Then you shouldn't have the problem at all.
