hi all,

i want subtitles to be external only because some are out of of sync and need to be adjusted, but with Use External Subtitles selected I get them burnt in to the avi as well as the rar. strange?

I noticed this happened after i upgraded from 2.45 to 2.48b, so i uninstalled everything with revo uninstaller and reinstalled 2.45 only but its still happening.

any clues?

ok i'm pulling my hair out here trying to sort this out.

With 'Use External Subtitles' NOT checked i get
- subtitles burnt in
- no external subtitles

With 'Use External Subtitles' checked i get
- external subtitles
- AND subtitles burnt in

they just wont turn off. is there something in the registry or a text file or something that i can check?!?!?!?!?

Did you check the VOBs to see if maybe the subs come already burned in? It's not unheard of.

Also, can you open the finished AVI in VDubMod to see if the subs are still there? There's a chance that when playing the AVI the subs are also being played and you're mistakenly thinking they've been burned in.

If neither of those suggestions gives the answer, can you post the log?

problem solved! at last.

i checked the vob, subtitles weren't burnt in, good. checked the resulting avi in VDubMod and there was NO subtitles?! what tha?

so then by coincedence i noticed that when i view the avi in MPC-HC there is a little green arrow appearing amongst my tray icons, which i find is something called DirectVobSub that is auto-loading subtitles. wow. dont know how that happened, but its disabled now and all is well.

maybe i was the only noob that has ever had this problem, but hopefully this could help someone else some day....? :)
