Hey guys. I'm completely new to encoding with x264, and I have been spending a about a week trying this out, reading different tuts and trying stuff out, but this problem has me stumped. Currently I am trying to encode all my DVD of Aqua Teen Hunger Force to x264 using AutoMKV 0.95. I set them all up in queue to encode and they all did, but when i went to watch some of them I noticed they have this problem

I thought it was might be due to interlacing but i noticed when i load the .vob and it does that little analyzing thing it says that the frame type is progressive. So I dont know whats going on.

If it matters i'm using the stock CRF value of 18, AQ strength of 0.5, and AQ sensitivity of 13, even though I have no idea what those do. Oh yeah, and I'm not resizing these, i'm keeping them at the same resolution that they are on the dvd.

Can any offer and insight? Thanks

Show us a screenshot of the original source frame aswell, possibly even a sample online.

Btw, this picture is the best explaination of how evil interlacing is, with perfect faces in the shot aswell. :D

using AutoMKV 0.95

try using the 0.96 beta 11 and select the SAFE deinterlacer

Thanks for the input guys. I have to go to work but when I get back I will take a screenshot of the source as well, and try out .96 beta 11.

I just remembered also. They are not all like this, I did season one using automkv 0.93c i think it was. Then I switched over to 0.95 when I started doing Arrested development and I was trying to get the Aspect ratio correct and I read someone said to try 0.95 so I switched, and it worked. Then I went to encoded seasons 2-4 of ATHF with 0.95 and they are like this.

Ok guys I got a snapshot of the source .vob file and it looks the same

Why would AutoMKV see the source as progressive when it looks like it is interlaced?

EDIT: Ok, I just tried encoding using 0.96b11 with Safe deinterlacer and this was the result:

EDIT 2: Just ran it again this time with the auto settings for deinterlacer and it gave pretty much identical results

Guess this is as good as it gets no?

Instead of deinterlacing, use IVTC. ATHF isn't interlaced, but it has so many stills it confuses megui.

Thanks for the advice. However I'm not using megui, i'm using AutoMKV. How do I use IVTC (inverse telecine?) in AutoMKV?

on deinterlacer settings select "FILM" , no need to select frame order
