I have a Scientific Atlanta Explorer 8240HDC DVR from Cox. I’ve connected an external eSATA hard drive using a NexStar 3 Enclosure with a Maxtor 500 GB SATA HD. My problem is that the recording freezes for a second every now & then while the sound keeps going. It’s annoying. Does anybody know why? Need help – Thanks in advance.

Hi
Have you tried disabling the time shifting while recording.
It´s just a guess, I have a Tv card and sometimes this function can cause hiccups .

Mr. Soft,
How do I disable the time shifting in Scientific Atlanta Explorer 8240HDC. I went through the setting button on the remote and can't find time shifting.
Thanks for your reply.

How do I disable the time shifting
Good question, I think you will have to contact your cable service provider. A quick check reveals that your player is not for sale, and was provided by your cable company. Their tech. department should know a lot more than I could speculate.
Once again it is just a guess, there could be other variables .
ie: check your display supports your output res., faulty unit, etc.
Let us know how you get on.

My display is a Panasonic TH-50PZ700U capable of 1080P and the Scientific Atlanta Explorer 8240HDC is connected using HDMI cable. Without the external HD the explorer 8240 works fine (recording and playback), no glitches but with the limited capacity of the internal HD I decided to attach an external HD using eSATA cables. So somehow my external HD is causing this problem. I've e-mailed Scientific Atlanta but no reply yet; I'll wait and see if they respond to my e-mail. I've also posted this question on other sites but no response - just a look of readings.

Hi
I was under the impression that you were recording to the internal.
Here is a product data sheet on your player.

Just out of interest, when you transfer a recorded file (recorded on the internal) to the external, does it play back ok?.

What the explorer 8240HDC does is record to the biggest available drive which in this case is the 500 GB external HD. I'm not sure how big the internal HD is but it can record only about 15 - 20 Hours of High Def programs. So right now all of my High Def recordings are going directly to the external HD. I've got about 48 hours of recording and it's 57% full. If I disconnect the external HD, all recordings will go to the internal HD. So the answer to your question - no I'm not transferring files - just watching recorded files which have some freezes every now and then, which is very annoying. I can either live with it until I find a solution to this freezing problem or disconnect the external HD and just be limited to about 15 hours of High Def recorded programs. So far no solution. I hope somebody out there has a solution to this. I’m thinking of changing/swapping the enclosure but I can’t do it for another two weeks or so. The link didn't work because of the dots, Thanks.
