I wanted to let you guys know that I will be most likely be transitioning into another position at RealNetworks, which does not involve working directly on RealVideo or NGV. The project is very exciting, and will most likely make waves when a product is released, but that is all I can say.

As far as I know, the work on NGV will go on as strong as it has been, but without me on board.

I will be happy to continue to moderate the RealVideo aspect of this board.

Sincerely,
Karl L.

Sounds somehow like more Administrative coordination work (and everything that comes with it, such as a big Office your own secretary and allot more responsibilities for everyone and everything) then Hard Programming for you in the times ahead now, tough I'm not sure if i should congratulate or be sorry for you "even if the paycheck tells otherwise" ;)

PS: Tough because that's the way it is I'm gonna congratulate, as we all getting older aren't we ;)

Hey Sirber and CruNcher!

Thanks!

CruNcher: No, it will still involve hard core technical work because my skills have evolved a little beyond video codecs (I hope), so by all means, I appreciate your congratulation. The new position will necessarily also some involve some advicing and tutoring, but no bigger office and secretary. I would hate to do only administration and coordination work!!

Hmm what is beyond Video Codecs, maybe Quantum Physics based Video Codecs?, tough of course good to hear you stay "hardcore" :D

You are of course 100% right! I should have written 'below' or if stretching it 'along with' :)

This does seem exciting. I read the other thread your mention of the possibly of going open standard (or perhaps even open source!) with the codec. This is good news, for even DivX is now working on an AVC (obviously, open standard) codec of their own.

Sirber, our resident "legendary RV10 nerd," how are you feeling about this development? :)

RealNetworks and Open Source? I can't believe I am hearing the two terms in the same sentence! :)

Good luck with the new position, Karl!

Yes, NGV is still in development. I watched an impressive demo the other day, 1920x1080 in 3D.
