Hello, I'm new here, but have been lurking for quite some time. Now that I've run into this strange issue, decided to sign up.

This is the problem. When I records a television program with my DVD recorded (Philips) and later burn it to DVD, it creates an DVD disc where the first chapter is a title on the DVD and the rest of the chapters are 'unreferenced material'. I would like to rip this DVD in a normal way.

Smartripper only see the first title and nothing else.
DVD decrypter is actually 'crashing' (windows needs to close this program)
Ripit4me give the following:
Loading IFOs
DVD is region-free
Button 0 at LBA 64 has JumpTT command
0 Button(s) Over Video found in all VTS
Video Format: PAL
Checking once more for unreferenced titlesets...
Excluding VTS 1 from rip because it is unreferenced.
Waiting for Decrypter to be ready
Done importing the PSL file, now starting ripping...

Can somebody help me? Why is Ripit4me exclusing the VTS file?
Thanks!

Anyone...? I've included the Ripit4me logfile. The bit that I don't understand is that Ripit4me is removeing the unreferenced material, even though I've set it not to do so. Does anyone have experience with this? BTW this rip is from a DVD I crdeated, where I removed all trackmarks.

Thanks!!

Hi!

1) Please post ALL of the directory contents (Filenames and Filesizes)from the ORIGINAL Philips-recorded DVD

2) Does this ORIGINAL DVD play properly - on your PC and or another standalone DVD player?

It's not encrypted so you should be able to just copy and paste the files.

Hi!

1) Please post ALL of the directory contents (Filenames and Filesizes)from the ORIGINAL Philips-recorded DVD

Hey thanks for thinking with me! This is the content of the directory:
E:\VIDEO_TS>dir
Volume in drive E is DVD_VR
Volume Serial Number is 4BEC-F71D

Directory of E:\VIDEO_TS

30-03-2008 22:10 <DIR> .
30-03-2008 22:10 <DIR> ..

2) Does this ORIGINAL DVD play properly - on your PC and or another standalone DVD player?

It does. On the DVD player it works, however the images freezes for a moment when the DVD goes from chapter 1 to the unreferenced material. On my PC (Intervideo 5) it doesn't work (I didn't check that before) it stops after the first chapter (when it is accessing the unreferenced material)

So I think that the question is actually, how can I make sure that the unreferenced material is included in chapter 1?

Thank you, really appreciate it.

It's not encrypted so you should be able to just copy and paste the files.

That is right, I can copy the files onto my harddisk, however I cannot rip (for example the audio) since I cannot access the unreferenced material. Thank you for thinking with me!

Hello, I try to make it a little clearer:

This is the root of the DVD:
30-03-2008 22:10 <DIR> VIDEO_TS
30-03-2008 22:10 <DIR> VIDEO_RM

This is the content of VIDEO_RM directory:
30-03-2008 22:10 <DIR> .
30-03-2008 22:10 <DIR> ..
30-03-2008 22:10 32.768 VIDEO_RM.IFO
30-03-2008 22:10 32.768 VIDEO_RM.BUP
30-03-2008 22:10 1.048.576 VIDEO_RM.DAT

This is the content of VIDEO_TS directory:
30-03-2008 22:10 <DIR> .
30-03-2008 22:10 <DIR> ..
30-03-2008 22:10 12.288 VIDEO_TS.IFO
30-03-2008 22:10 12.288 VIDEO_TS.BUP
30-03-2008 22:10 262.144 VIDEO_TS.VOB
30-03-2008 22:10 38.912 VTS_01_0.IFO
30-03-2008 22:10 38.912 VTS_01_0.BUP
30-03-2008 22:10 1.073.676.288 VTS_01_1.VOB
30-03-2008 22:10 592.936.960 VTS_01_2.VOB

The <DIR> . and the <DIR> .. directory don't mean anything, this is DOS for current directory, one dot and higher directory two dots.

Thanks for thinking with me!

The <DIR> . and the <DIR> .. directory don't mean anything, this is DOS for current directory, one dot and higher directory two dots.I am aware of what this DOS structure represents.

The problem is that the "VIDEO_TS" folder/directory of a properly structured Video DVD can ONLY contain .VOBs, .IFOs, and .BUPs.

You might want to try the following, using your ORIGINAL recorded DVD as the source:

1) Create a folder on your hard drive named "Test"
2) Create a sub-folder named "VIDEO_TS" in the "Test" folder
3) Copy ONLY the .VOBs, .IFOs, and .BUPs (NOT the directory hierarchy) from the original DVD's "VIDEO_TS" folder into the hard drive's "VIDEO_TS" sub-folder
4) Use IMGBurn, in "Build" mode, to burn a Video DVD from the "Test" folder

No luck...

I did the following...
As you said, I copied the content of the AUDIO_TS folder to the test folder on my hard drive. It does only contain BUP IFO and VOB files. Once copied I created a test.iso file using IMGBURN as you suggested. I then extracted all files using winrar and tried to access them using DVD shrink, however now it gives me an error: Invalid data in file "C:\test2\VIDEO_TS\VTS_01_2.VOB" Do you want me to actually burn the image to an disc?
Is imgburn actually 'rebuilding' the DVD structure?

Thanks.

@setarip_old: DVD recorders will create a directory structure that doesn't have AUDIO_TS. That's replaced by VIDEO_RM, and I have no further info on that. I must admit, I prefer - recorders because you can actually seek on computers, whereas + requires chapters every 5 minutes to get a coherent seek going.

@tommieie: Try copying the DVD to your hard disk via DVD Decrypter in ISO mode, then burn that ISO file to disc.

Hello Inventive Software,

Thanks for helping! setarip_old write indeed VIDEO_TS and that is the directory I copied it to indeed. By mistake I wrote AUDIO_TS.

I tried your approach however no luck. I created he ISO file using Ript4me (since DVD decrypter cannot handle he DVD as I wrote above). I unpacked the ISO file using winrar and then tried to access it using smartripper, however no luck.

I made the attached screenprint from DVD shrink, here you can see that the DVD contains the 'movie' as 'unreferenced material' and nothing else. If I open it using smartripper, it only sees the menu (0:04 seconds) and not this part.

Would it be an iea to entirely recreate the video only using the VOB files for example in Nero?

Thanks for the help

If DVD Decrypter, and thus RipItForMe can't handle it, try DVDFab Decrypter. :search:

@tommieieOnce copied I created a test.iso file using IMGBURN as you suggested. That is not what I suggested. I suggested that you:Use IMGBurn, in "Build" mode, to burn a Video DVD from the "Test" folder
