Convert avi to DVD

is there a way, and if yes, what is the best tool to use to convert avi to DVD, and still be able to enable or disable subtitles with the regular "subtitle" button on the remote of my DVD player...?

if no, what should i use to convert my AVIs into DVDs with integrated subtitles into the frames

i am sure this has been discussed somewhere here, but every time i try to search "avi to DVD" it says: be more specific... and.. i don't know how :)

so a link to a related discussion would do just fine
