I'm trying to add black borders to a video with dimensions 768x432...it is an avi file, and I was thinking it would be best to add black borders enough to keep it in widescreen format, but I don't know how much I should add. When working with 4:3 videos, I always added 32 to the left and right sides (totalling 64 horizontally) and 24 to the top and bottom (totalling 48 vertically).

My question is, how much black border should I add to this video file to make it play correctly on my television? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
:thanks:

768x432 = 1.78:1, which is already 16:9, unless it wasn't made from a 16:9 DVD with the same frame AR. So, why do you need to add black borders? Does it look distorted the way it is? If it does, the solution is to resize it properly, not add black borders. If you are seeing this on the PC, you can resize during playback or use a player where you can set a custom AR. If this is for a SAP, you'll have to reencode, thus losing quality.

768x432 is an uncommon resolution to encode to. I have only seen it in some anime fansubs. What do you want to do? Play it back on the TV? It's better if you encode the video again from the DVD source as to add the black border there and not after. Now, as to what to do to add borders:

AR 4:3 640x480
AR 16:9 640x360

Thus, you need to add 60 to each the top and the bottom of the 640x360 video to make it 640x480. From there you can keep adding more pixels to the borders as you've been doing.
