I'm very new to all of this, and have very basic needs: I want to back up my son's DVDs (Elmo, Disney - typical kid stuff) since they take some abuse. I have DVD Shrink, which is how I happened upon this forum. I've done free trials of Nero and OneClickDVD - I didn't like OneClick, and Nero seems wasted on my needs: I only used the Recode part of the software. I'd love to get experienced input on sw appropriate to my needs.

Hi!
I'm afraid that for most, if not all, the Disney releases, you'll find that DVD Shrink cannot properly process them directly.
I'd suggest you use the most recent version of any of the following:
1) RipIt4Me (Freeware)
2) DVD95CopyPro (Commercial)
3) Any DVD (Commercial)
4) DVDFab HD Decrypter (Freeware)

Do you have a dual-layer burner? If so, just buy DL media and make straight ISO copies. Simple and fast.

Hi!If so, just buy DL media and make straight ISO copies.1) That still requires use of a "ripping" program, such as those I've listed
2) Quality double layer media (Verbatim D/L DVD+R) still costs from 4 to 10 times the price of single layer - Especially for little kids' viewing of animated features, I'd sooner use the price differential for the next single layer copy to be made, after the little ones have "had their way" with the first through fourth copies ;>}

Great - I appreciate the input!
Setarip: are your suggestions all-in-one solutions, or do they require me to use one program to copy to my hard drive and another to burn the DVD (like what I've tried using DVD Shrink/Nero Recode)?
And, realizing how opinions really vary - any benefits I should really consider for the commercial programs as compared to the freeware?
I'd suggest you use the most recent version of any of the following:
1) RipIt4Me (Freeware)
2) DVD95CopyPro (Commercial)
3) Any DVD (Commercial)
4) DVDFab HD Decrypter (Freeware)

Setarip: are your suggestions all-in-one solutionsDVD95CopyPro is the only true "one-click" program in the list. It will do the ripping, compressing and burning - and if set to do so, will do it all with literally one click of the "Start" radiobutton ;>}
