I was looking over the Capture FAQ, but the:

4.) Which hardware is recommended?

- Here is a great article on Scuba's site:

http://www.highvid.com/hardware_tips/basic/1/hard_sel_1.shtml

Link no longer works :(.

So, I was wondering, what are some recommendations for "tape recorders" to get the vhs tapes (and / or svhs) into the computer video capture card.

Preferably tape should be ntsc and pal capable...

I was getting a lot requests of people to do old vhs tapes -->dvd sort of conversions, I don't really think I have enought knowledge to handle that well, BUT, I'm toying with the idea... But I need a video tape recorder/player to input it to the capture card...

Hi!

1) VirtualDub has built-in capture capability

2) VirtualVCR (also freeware) is another choice

No no... I do not mean programs...

Let's say I have a VHS tape, how do I get it into the computer? I can't shove the tape into the capture card, right? doesn't fit the small holes :), I need the VHS tape recorder or how's it called, the thing into which you insert the tape...

That's what I'm asking about here... about the device into which I insert the vhs tape itself...

You have to connect your VHS player to your PC's capture card, via either composite cables, SVideo or Scart...

Yes yes, I'm asking in this thread suggestions for VHS players... from people who already do this sort of thing... Since as far as I know - different players will give you different quality, no?

yup
