Hi all... although I'm not a newbie to DVD ripping, and this question is not about ripping, I am basically a newbie to High Definition. Sorry if I'm posting in the wrong place. Also sorry if this question has been asked before; searching and Googling didn' t seem to answer my question.
I have a 'HD-ready' TV. I have no HD-DVD or Blu-Ray player or discs, but plenty of old-fashioned DVDs... so many in fact that I have most ripped to a couple of hard drives (in .ISO form)... so far I've tended to watch them on my PC monitor, and I find mounting ISOs in Daemon easier than messing around with the actual discs.
Anyway... say I want to watch these movies on my TV, but I still want to use the ripped .ISO files rather than the original discs... if I hook up my PC to the TV (presumably with either HDMI cable or a DVI-HDMI adaptor), then can I watch them with any upscaling benefits? If I use a PC solution (e.g. a good GFX card with hardware acceleration or codecs), how would that compare to sticking the original discs in a Blu-Ray player for upscaling?
Or to put it simply, can I watch ISOs on a hard drive, on my TV, with upscaling? If so, how would I go about it?
Sorry if it's a dumb question, and thanks in advance for any thoughts or advice.
