I have to make a movie of myself for one of my school classes, and so my friend let me use his video camera for it. Now that I have it taped, I'm wondering how I transfer the video onto my computer. I would like the video to be in .avi format so that I can use Avisynth and VirtualDub to edit it. I tried using Windows Movie Maker, but the quality was horrible when I looked at the video. So, what other options do I have to get the video onto my computer?

Presumably you have already tried importing with Windows Movie Maker (WMM)? If so, I assume you have a DV camcorder. If that's the case, the poor video quality is because you are most likely creating a WMV format file with settings optimized for web/email distribution. In WMM, you need to tell it to output to DV format AVI files. If you do that, the quality will be the same as the original.

You can use VirtualDub for the capture, iirc.
