View Full Version : Cut sizes wrong

I have successfully used DVD2SVCD a variety of times now. However, I am stuck on a movie where DVD2SVCD simply will generate too big of a CUE. (Actually, already the MPG file is too big). When I add up the sizes of both generated MPG files I find that, when properly cut, they would fit on 2 CDs (80min).

However, they are simply not cut in the middle.

What's going on?

build 1.0.5 build 4 will always be 797.....wait for the 1.0.6 or you could download 1.0.6 pre 7 bundle...I'll leave it up to you to find it.

I guess I am lost in the treasure hunt. Where can I find it?

Still a bug (if I understand correctly):

I have a movie, 107 mins. 192 audio.

If I use the default recommendation DVD2SVCD seems to imply it will, for a length between 100 and 125 minutes, choose 2 80 min CDs.

However, nothing can talk it out of the recommendation for a bitrate of 2230, which, of course, will result in 3 CDs.

I am forcing it to use a lower bitrate, see what comes out of it.

BTW - for another movie 105:55 minutes he seems to pick the right bitrate.

Not clear what is going on here.

set your min bit rate to 0 instead of 300.
Also put your allowable mins in your bitrate to about 5 mins above

in other words if your movies is 121 mins...set the 2 cds to whatever to 126mins and it should get in there.

What I do sometimes...is look to see which Avg. Bitrate CCE is encoding and if it is too high I know it's going for 3 cds so I'll stop and readjust and start over.

Well,

I think it is fair to say that 1.0.6 build 1 Pre 7 now consistently cuts wrong, at 808 MB to be precise. It has done so for me now with two different movies.

I guess I'm back to the old 'by hand' method, although the correct chaptering was nice ...

All you need to do is where is says 800 now, change that to 797. Simple enough.
If you have already finished the movie and want it cut to the right size edit the d2s file and use 797 instead of 800. Then run crash recovery and re-mux the file.

You can't use the recovery function for it because of the fact that DVD2SVCD indeed cuts at exactly 797MB (the temporary file size).

However, after the BIN/CUE construction completes AVSEQ01.MPG has grown to 806MB. (I don't know why). Then there is the SCANDATA.DAT, DVD2SVCD.XML, ITEM0001.MPG and ITEM0002.MPG and the various files in the SVCD folder that let everything well exceed the allowed size.

Recutting won't help unless I split everything into 3 CDs, which is, of course, not my intent.

As such I could do a trial and error method that you suggested and lower the CD file sizes and recompress again and if that doesn't work go lower and recompress again - That wouldn't be the sensible thing to do either.

The major questions I see here is that apparently the second audio stream (as mentioned in another post) is not calculated properly and the mysterious growth of the MPG file explained.

@24hourloop:
And where is the problem with it (806MB)? - When i put in one of my no name 80 min CD-RW, CDR Media Code Identifier says under nominal Capacity: 79m 59s and LBA: 359849.

Here is the calculation. The images will be burnt with 2352 bytes per Sector(LBA) So you get 359849*2352=846364848 Bytes to fit on the CD. And 846364848 Bytes are 807,16 MB. So again, there is no Problem at all.

And that is with tis brand of CD-RW. There are others around which can hold more Minutes.

Correct (somewhat). You can fit 807.5 MB on a SVCD. DVD2SVCD generates (for me) 808.29 ...

I know, it is just a little bit too much but enough to not let me burn it (without overburning and I won't do that).

By editing the project file and playing with the cut rates I was eventually able to (barely) get two burnable CDs.

I continue to believe that something about the calculation omits some space.

I think it's the cd overlap which omits..or doesn't calculate. Try unchecking cd overlapping and set your cd size to 800 and see if it doesn't work with 1.0.6 build 1.

Nope I have fixed it all in 1.0.6 but you must start from scratch to test it, as I calculate the cutpoint just before CCE starts.

I was running 1.0.6 Build 1 Pre 7.

I see the version you announced definitely has some other stuff in it that the Pre didn't.

Thanks for putting BiLinearResize in!
