I am a relative newbie and have an avi file which I would like to convert to dvd changing the aspect ratio from 4:3 to 16:9 or a user defined ratio. I've done conversions with winavi, dvdflick and convertxtodvd3, setting, I believe the appropriate variables in each program, all produce no change in aspect. My aim is preserve all the picture but stretch it to correct proportions, black bars top and bottom are acceptable. I also need to merge in subtitles so I have not tried with nero. What am I missing or is there something peculiar with the avi file?
Help appreciated,
Hibbs.

Hi!
Please load the .AVI you've created into GSpot and post a screen capture back here...

Attached (I hope) are four screen shots. In this rendering both axes have been flipped, not always the case??? Somethings a bit flakey

I don't see any attachments, I believe I followed the instructions, maybe I need help with this too!

ok, it seems my files were too big! Here are three, the image in 3 is flipped in both axes, this does not happen all the time!!
Thanks, Hibbs

@HibbsI would like to convert to dvd changing the aspect ratio from 4:3 to 16:9 or a user defined ratioPlease clarify - Your original "Red Sorghum" (ALL versions) DVD has an aspect ratio of 1.85:1.
1) So why did you convert it to a 4:3 .AVI?
2) Why would you want to convert from .AVI back to DVD? Simply make a backup of your original, commercial DVD

Hmmm...
How come the encode runs at 29.971fps (an NTSC speed) but has a resolution of 720x576 (which is a more suited PAL)?
EDIT: By-the-way, GSpot 2.52 has been superseded by 2.70a. And you could try adding 16:9 DAR signalling using MPEG4Modifier!

Thanks for the heads up about GSpot. Read the forum rules and this thread should be closed or deleted.
