View Full Version : Preview/Editor used to allocate less space to credits...re-allocate recovered else?

I was re-encoding the movie Heat to a DVD5. It had all the extras ripped via DVDRemake and was verified working with PGCedit. I enabled the bitrate resdistribution with HC as the scanner and applied to all VTS. I did a prepare and then went to preview/edit. I increased the compression on the end credits, thinking I would get this recovered space to the rest of the pgc's or rest of the movie. I was trying to leave most of the action sequences untouched, etc. Only problem is that the movie can out undersized. Is there a way for DVDRebuilder to automatically recover the space gained from using preview/editor and allocate to the rest of the tiles?

thanks for the responses.

In the Preview/Editor, use the menu option to redistribute savings to the feature. I haven't got a DVD ripped at the moment to check the exact wording but it should be obvious if you browse the menu in the Preview/Editor window.

Note that from memory if you are increasing the compression within a section of the feature (i.e. credits) and then distributing this saving it will also reapply a small percentage of the savings to the credits also (thus reducing it's compression) so you may need to initially over compress slightly, then apply savings, to get the final compression you want on the credits.

I thought that if the BITRATE REDISTRIBUTION was enabled that when the bitrate was changed in the Preview window, the redistribution would not be applied or something like that.

So now I can blank/edit bitrate in Preview and keep the REDISTRIBUTION that DVD-RB found during prepare phase?

Well, yes and no. You will start out working with the relative bitrates resulting from the REDISTRIBUTION -- but have the ability to completely change it as you play with bitrates in the viewer.

OK. Here is a better description of what I want to find out.

For example:
Feature VTS sector one had 60%, sector two has 75% reduction after 1st phase.
After blanking extras, and increasing overall feature VTS bitrate (reducing reduction?) to fill the disc, the feature's sectors will keep their relative redistribution and become, for example 66% and 82% and not 65% (as in non-redistributed value) across all the feature's sectors?

(numbers are not to scale)

The amount applied to each segment would be relative to it's starting size... so yes, it would keep the REDISTRIBUTION when reallocating (assuming you use the "allocate saved space to feature" menu item).
