Thanks to VD2SVCD 1.04 build 2 I have been able to create several SVCD with no problems, with multiple languages, and excellent quality. I can not still create subtitles. I ahve choosen to ripp subtitles, I see the BMB file, all look good, but he playe does not show any, and does not even enable the subtitle option. I use Windvd 3.1 as playe on my PC. Any suggestion is well come.
Maurizio:)

Read Q16 in the Q&A (http://rilanparty.com/vbb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=5686)

I used DVD2SVCD to burn SVCD with subtitles (1.0.5 build 4, SVCD subtitles)

When I play the disk (using Sampo DVE-611 player), it would not show the subtitles. When I press subtitle button on the remote it looks like the player lets you select subtitles, however they do not show.

I tried different things - and suddenly it worked! So I watched the movie and turned the player off.

The problem is - I do not remember how I got there. No matter what I did since - I was not able to get subtiiles any more.

Please help!

I think I encountered the same thing as you (my DVD player is an Apex 703).
At first I didn't get any subtitles, then I was able to see them.
It appeared that I used a Title image for my SVCD, and, being to impatient :D , i pressed the "next" key of my remote control to go to the first chapter (thus skipping the title image). If I do this, I never have subtitles.
BUT, if I wait until the end of the title image, I got the subtitles, and I can remove them using my remote control.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for answering.

It did not help. I set subtitiles to 1/4, press "play", the title picture appears, wait until the "real chapters" start - no subtitles.

What other setting do you have?

You are also using a very old version.
I suggest you upgrade to the latest build.

Are you sure WinDVD can play SVCD subtitles not DVD mind you?
There is no mention of SVCD subtitles on the Intervideo web site.

I am not using WinDVD - I know that software players do not play SVCD subtitles. I am using Sampo DVE-611 DVD/SVCD... standalone hardware player.

Isn't it obvious that I was not posting about you I was posting about Mastro who clearly states he is using WinDVD and 1.04 version of DVD2SVCD?

Mastro I have learned that WinDVD does not support subtitles. You need a Stand Alone DVD player that supports them.

Hello Basilio.
Unfortunately, I don't see what is different from your config.
Obviously, your DVD player supports SVCD subtitles as you already saw them.
Maybe you can update the DVD database here (http://www.vcdhelp.com/dvdplayers.php?DVDnameid=1006&Search=Search&list=0) , as it shows that your DVD player is not listed (just for further reference :) )
And yes, I am also selecting subtitle 1/4.
What I can suggest is to use the image that are referenced in the QA #16 from the author and try to "reproduce" the subtitles with an SVCD image that is known to work.

I tried the clips from Q16 - I couldn't reproduce the subtitles. Its weird. I guess next time I will burn permanent subtitles.

Thanks

Thanks to all you guys for all the replays and suggestions. Sorry for getting back after all this time.

I have red the Q16, still have not been able to get any on my DVD player (amoisonic 8166). Honestly After a while I gave up trying with subtitles, but is not over...yet.
When I wil get back to subtitles I will re-read Q16 and I know that here I can find good support.

Hello guys,
First of all let me apologize for introducing in an already-started thread, I've made a post some days ago "unseizable subtitles again", but as I see many of you ecountering the same problem of mine, I think it could be useful to confront our experiences in the same thread. Since I'm obviously not re-posting, if you're interested you can read the mentioned post of some days before.
Well, I must say I'm about to surrender, I tried also cvd subtitles after several attempts with normal svcd ones, still no way of getting them on the screen; then, as a last resort I made a cdrw with permanent subs but...I got trouble even with them! Of course I can display them either on standalone player and on pc, but they seem in both cases a little bit left-shifted (about 1/6 of screen width), so that when the title is too long I get it sometimes splitted in two. As far as I know I can only adjust Y position, that means just vertically.
So what's wrong again with me, the movie itself or something more I've missed?
s.w. specs:dvd2svcd 1.1.2 b1
standalone player:JVC XVN5
Thank you again

hi everybody, especially alec966,
I have red something about using standalone DVD player JVC XV-N5SL. I would like to buy this standalone DVD player, but ... I will describe my experiences: I have prepared few SVCD´s, every one with antoher settings (first CD was CVD subtitles, VCDXBuild, two audio streams, second CD was SVCD subtitles, VCDImager .. and so on) and I have gone to the shop. There I tried to play all CD´s on DVD player JVC XV-N5SL (EISA prize winner). Here is the result:

1) none of my all CD´s show subtitles, although the player sometimes indicates them (in the left upper corner appears an subtitle icon in the start of the playing) and sometimes not. After I have choosen them, nothing appeared.

2) all CD´s correctly play the sound and in all CD´s I was able to switch between two audio strems (and both played correctly).

3) photo CD (format VCD 2.0) with menu and photos worked fine, but I noticed, that colors of all shown photos turned a little bit to green, even if the photos did not include any green parts.

3) the picture of a video was always sharp, perfect visible quality BUT ... THE BIGGEST PROBLEM I NOTICED DURING THIS TEST WAS ... during playback of all CD´s there was always DARK AND LIGHTGREEN COLOR in grey and black areas of video on the screen. In other words - when the scene on the screen was for example night, night battle or even darker corner of the room, I saw always the mixture of gray-black-GREEN color. I was not able to change the video settings of player to correct this mismatch color reproducing (JVC XV-N5SL has a video-fine-processor with several modes of video to change the picture - saturation, hue, tint, and so on). No success. In PC I use WinDVD, PowerDVD, I played all those CD on my DVD-ROM and CD-R/RW drive, I tried another PC with another graphic card, another CD-ROM ... and I noticed none of the green-color-problem mentioned above appeared. Playeng the video on PC is always good (except subtitles, which never appears, but this I know). During my DVD-testing in the shop I tried another DVD player PROLink ... when using this player, the green color was also visible in the dark areas on screen, but not so much. Does this problem appear to somebody else?

Under those circumstances I realized not to buy neither this JVC player, nor the PROLing player. Could somebody help me - what standalone DVD player will work and show correct video and subtitles converted and prepared by DVD2SVCD with common settings? Could somebody give me an advice? I hope those written facts will maybe help to somebody else.

Thank you very much. Johny5

hi jorel,
thanks for you quick answer :-). Does this player work with subtitles? SVCD or CVD? I have been reading reports from the link you sent me, but nobody mentioned about subtitles. Some of reports warn, some says "this is the best player", some says "not bad", but exactly nobody says "play SVCD discs without problem, show SVCD or CVD subtitles without problem".

Besides, I am not from US, so if i buy this player from US shop, I will probably have problems with regions. (....hacking the region-protection in standalone DVD is possible, I know, but I will not rather do this, only if neccessary).

I will try to get some information about JVC you recommend me now.

thanks again.

@johny5:
I own the cyberhome model, it wont play any kind of subs. :(
But as markrb has stated, you should really move to another forum with this kind of discussion.
