View Full Version : Capturing with VirtualDub 1.8

Hello all.

I recently bought a Leadtek TV2000 XP Expert tv capture card. I've installed the latest VirtualDub (1.8) and captured a 20 minutes VHS stream to huffyuv at 720x576 PAL.

Viewing the capture I've noticed that the audio starts with perfect sync, but gradually gets out of sync to the point that after 20 minutes of video there is a noticeable sync difference.

I checked VirtualDub's settings and noticed that the "Resample audio to keep sync" option is indeed checked. I have a very fast machine (core 2 quad with 4gb of ram), and I had 0 dropped frames (according to virtualdub).

That being the case, what could be the reason for my syncing issue, and how would I fix it?

Thanks in advance!

Are you sure you're playback FPS is the same as your capture FPS.
Also, Huffyuv is uncompressed video, and at that duration would be quite a large file. Could there be a bottleneck somewhere in the playback causing the video to lag?

Sometimes with VHS sources, especially with variable quality, the resample audio option is not enough, and you need to also enable the options to drop or insert frames to keep sync.

The fact that you got 0 dropped frames may indicate that these options are disabled.

I switched to VirtualVCR, and apparently it did the trick.

I think, though, you were right. Because in VirtualVCR I do see some dropped frames (I think like 20 frames for a 20 minutes capture) - and it syncs perfectly.

Thanks alot!
