Hi.
I have just tried using the Avi2svcd on a Divx movie. the film was fine, but sound was way out of sync.
I know that Divx uses compressed audio, is this the reason?
can this prog handle Divx?
or do i just need to change some settings?
(from the movie)
the audio was encoded at 127kbps (mp3)
the video was 640 x 360 25 frames/second @ 119kbps 24bit
compression Divxmpg4 v3
TIA

This is the DVD2SVCD forum not the AVI2SVCD forum.
I think you have the wrong place.
DVD2SVCD is a program.

@Markrb
Yes Mark I do realise that this forum is for Dvd2svcd, BUT if you took the trouble to check the new features that have been included you will see that it now supports AVI2SVCD.
hence the posting to this group. :p
any advice would be greatfully received ;)

I did not know this. I have not used the 1.06 pre versions.
I thought it was another mistakenly placed post.
It has happened before.

I'm trying to work really hard figuring out all the specs. I'm updating it almost daily the dvd2svcd advanced reference which has a section on AVI2SVCD. miniDV and Digital8 are the main emphasis currently I believe. I know it's inevitable people will be try DIVX to SVCD but I personally think it's a waste of time. I just think many newbies will attempt it and come to the conclusion that SVCD quality sucks the big one when compared to DIVX which I don't think so at all.
Anyone if you have some good DIVX --> AVI2SVCD info that I could add it to the reference. I'm sure it'd help out others.

what do you mean about that? divx is crap! there is no way to work around that! if you whant quality svcd is the way .. or mini dvd... or in a few months .... clone dvd ( cant wait for double layer writers.....) but for now svcd rules!

Everybody needs to remember that the avi2svcd feature in the "pre's" is at an early stage and is not totally supported at the moment. Play around with it, but DON'T post a lot of questions to the forum or I suspect the feature will be pulled out. It is working well for the conversion of DVCAM footage with a few minor audio glitches. It is my understanding that this was the first avi target rather than divx.
Just hold those avi2svcd questions for the time being.
All of dvd2svcd's time at the moment is directed to the CCE oddities that happen to some.

actually I believe you should direct 95% of your questions about AVI2SVCD over on the Capturing Video forum. Also for those who wanna convert DIVX to SVCD....god help you. Read this thread (http://208.189.26.162/vbb/showthread.php?&threadid=13631) first though.

Thank you so much for adding this feature!!!
After a little tinkering I was able to encode a very good quality divx into svcd without losing any noticable quality.
The program wouldnt recognize the sound stream, so I went into VirualDub and choose direct stream copy and just recopied the movie. VirDub warned that the audio was messed up, and fixed it.
Svcd2avi then proceeded on perfectly until it got to Pulldown, where the script tried "pulldown CCE_Encoded_Video_NTSC.mpv CCE_Encoded_Video_NTSC.mpv" which caused it to try to overwrite itself, and later say file not found in BBMpeg. I performed the pulldown myself and restarted with the crash recovery right after the pulldown, and it finished up flawlessly the rest of the way.
I then had a VERY nice conversion from DIVX to SVCD which always seemed very difficult to do without this program.
With a little polishing, this will be a very nice extra feature to an already GREAT program.

@MrBass
Yes, Divx maybe bad and maybe sub Svcd when badly encoded, but it has it's place.
I do not want to create Divx, I have already been down that route.
I didnt want to create a Divx v Svcd thread either.
I just happened to have one or two very well encoded Divx's that I wanted to play around with and ask some simple questions.
you said:

yes people will try Divx to Svcd & not just newbies!.
and we are all entitled to our opinions.
@Markrb
My appologies if my reply to your post was a little abrupt.
thanks everyone for your input.

I'm playing quite a bit now with DV capture. As soon as I figure out which method works best,etc. I'm using MS DV codec, Mainconcept,etc. Also which settings Frame-based (this one I think), field order A, field order B. I'm encoding all my 5 min 1GB clips with 4 pass vbr. Gonna to burn each one to a cd to see how it looks on TV. Anyway I keep updated that AVI2SVCD section even though it's inaccurate as heck.
DVD2SVCD that's great news....that pre-7 seems rather stable to me. But are you infering people that had a CCE logo had CCE crashes ...OR you saying people that did something (errr..hmmm) to a CCE demo from doom9 had experienced CCE crashes?
