View Full Version : IfoEdit adds wrong color to the subtitles

Hello.
I've been trying to add some subtitles to a DVD, but IfoEdit doesn't get the right color on them. Here's what I did.
I used DVD Decrypter to demux the main movie to the HDD as AC3 and M2V files. I also used the option to create special celltimes file for later use in IfoEdit.
Next I opened up Subtitle Workshop, loaded two .srt subtitle files, joined them, synchronized them, saved it as one .srt. Then I opened it up in SubtitleCreator and converted it over to a .SUP file.
Next, I opened up IfoEdit, authored a new DVD. When the DVD was ready, I copied the colors from the original 'VTS_01_0.IFO' file to the new one. However, they don't look like the white ones that were on the original DVD. Instead, they are all yellowish, difficult to read.
What seems to be the problem here? I don' think they are supposed to come out that way.
I also tryed the color codes that were posted in the IfoEdit Sticky thread. I got a better result, but still not perfect. The text was white, but there was some purple color glowing by.

You have to import the IFO of the original title in SubtitleCreator to inform it of the colors that are available. Otherwise, it uses default colors, and they are not necessarily the same than in the original DVD.
Anyway, you can change the color table of the new DVD easily with PgcEdit. Double-click on the main movie PGC, and edit the 2 or 3 colors used by the subtitles to suit your needs. (For example, you will need to change the purple to black.) You can also reassign the colors of the subtitles to different slots of the color table with DVDSubEdit, but usually, it's not necessary.

Wow, thank you very much. There was the problem, didn't load the original IFO.
Just one minor thing about the outcome, MPC shows the audio language same as the subtitle language, although it isn't. They aren't the same in the IFO file description either (I checked the right language when authoring). Doesn't really change anything, but just wondering that how come MPC displays it that way. Seems to me like a MPC bug, it shows the right language in the 'navigate->audio language' menu, but not in the information box below the movie.
Thanks again for the helpful reply. ;)

@FlezZ
Hi!When the DVD was ready, I copied the colors from the original 'VTS_01_0.IFO' file to the new one.If you did this in the following fashion, your subtitle colors should be the same as that of the original DVD:- Open the movie original .IFO (most likely "VTS_01_0.IFO") in IfoEdit.
- Select "VTS_PGCITI" >> VTS_PGC_1"
- Choose "Subtitle Color" >> "Copy Colors From This PGC".
- Open your edited version of the .IFO.
- Select "VTS_PGCITI" >> VTS_PGC_1"
- Choose "Subtitle Color" >> "Paste Colors Into This PGC".
- Save the .IFO and .BUP (make backups beforehand, just in case).
If the DVD has more than one title with subs, repeat the same procedure for the other .IFOs

No, Setarip. With your method, the color table in the IFO will be the same, that's right, but since FlezZ has rebuilt the subpics with Subtitle Creator without forcing it to use the same color indexes than the original subpic stream, they are now pointing to other entries in the table, and the colors displayed on screen are wrong.
The solution is to edit the color table with PgcEdit, or to modify the color indexes in the subpic stream with DVDSubEdit, as I suggested.

Still not quite ok here. There's still a problem with the subtitles - they become out of sync after I have authored the new DVD. When I check the original srt in Subtitle Workshop, and compare it to the running movie in MPC, it all adds up nicely. However, after I have converted it to SUP and authored a new dvd, the subtitles are delayed for a couple of seconds. How come?

No idea, but you can synchronize the subpics easily with SC, or, on the final DVD, with DVDSubEdit.

Maybe the problem is the timecode: drop vs. nondrop (29.97 vs 30)
in a 2 hours movie, the diference is 3,6 seconds

The movie is a little bit under 2 hours and the delay is around 3 seconds. It's a region 2 dvd btw.
When I open the VOBs with DVDSubEdit, the timecodes are exactly the same as they were in the srt, which means they are in sync.
However when I play it, it falls out of sync.
I finally got the subtitles into sync with DVDSubEdit. I'd still like to know why it wasn't in sync in the first place, so if anyone's got any ideas then please, post them.
