For some reason i can not get cdrwin to burn any of the image files. Every time i try to burn one of them i get "Error: start DAO recording, command failed on device 1:0:0 Cuesheet was rejected by the CDROM recorder". Thinking that this may have to do with ASPI i downloaded and installed the aspi files linked on this site. Didnt work. Then i used the aspi files installed with cdrwin, still didnt work. So then i gave fireburner a try, and got

"Recording device: HP CD-Writer+ 9300
Recording method: Disc-at-once 96 (Dao96)
Recording Speed: 6x

Thread1: Setting Write Parameters

Thread2: Write Error @ Sector 366590Thread2: Sense Error: ILLEGAL_REQUEST (INVALID FIELD IN COMMAND PACKET) (0x05 0x24 0x00)Thread2: Synchronizing CacheRecording complete"

Fire burner always errors at that same spot, it finishes writting to the cdr and then as the Write Cache bars go to 0, i get that error. I tried a whole bunch of different write methods under the options menu and still no luck. whats going on, anyone that can help me please do! thanks

Did you get a response to this one ?

I am encontering the exact same problem :-

Illegal request: invalid field or sense error. It happens intermittently and has done for some time... but it is now getting worse and more frequent. The problems occurs regardless of the approach. I.e. whether I use Fireburner OR Daemon tools. The interesting thing is that like you I am using an external HP CD-Writer 9300. Could that be part of the problem ?

Anyone else had similar problems ?

Thanks,

Neil.

If you guys would give more information it would help like what version of dvd2svcd are you using? I'm using the latest version and haven't had a problem with burning the cue/bin files.

A lot of HP writers are rebadged Sony's and thus do not support overburn. If you try to burn an image with a Disc Duration greater than the nominal capacity of the media, CDRWin reports that the writer kicked back the cuesheet, whereas Fireburner writes regardless and then fails at the very end when you run out of disc space.

Open the cuesheet in CDRWin and see what the Disc Duration says.

Download CDR Identifier http://www.amd3d.com/ftp/cdr.zip
and check the Nominal Capacity of your CDR's.

I suspect you will find your image file is a few second longer than your CDR's!

If your CDR's are shorter than they claim to be (not unheard of) it's new discs time. If your image files are longer than they should be (older builds of Our Leader's Great Work had a bug resulting in oversize image files) then it's time to update and re-encode.

If you are using the latest version and still getting oversize images, reduce the CD Size boxes in the Bitrate tab of D2S to 735 and 795 instead of 740 and 800 and encode again.

Just my two pence worth.

The angry face is as a result of creating an ever increasing number of coasters. Don't get me wrong I think the DVD2SVCD is great, but I am getting increasingly frustrated. The problem appears to be occuring more frequently.

Now using v1.0.9 build 1. Have used all versions in between from approx 1.0.4 ish...

Problem occurs regardless of which encoder is used TNPGenc or CCE. Doesn't appear to be a problem with DVD2SVCD. This runs through regularly - no problems (no CCE freezes anymore either - thanks).

The problem is as reported - in burning. It is intermittent and weird.

Example :- The movie Driven. Ripped, encoded and SVCD images created perfectly using CCE. Creates 2 disks. Disk 2 burns perfect. Test with Fireburner, then burn to 80min CD - no problem. Disk 1 is a problem. Won't test burn with Fireburner. Yields the illegal action message at top of thread. So... Load up with Daemon tools. Image plays perfect with WinDVD. Test burn with CloneCD. Runs through fine. Then burn to 80min CD. Fails with similar message (and same code string)...aagh
Now I'm getting desparate. Try CDRWin. Go straight to burn - no image to hard disk first (could that be the problem ?) 70% of the way through and aaghh another coaster.

Back to square 1... Re-run DVD2SVCD all the way - use TMPGenc this time. 2 images created. Testburn Disk1 with Fireburner. Goes OK. Let's be more cautious, cut the burn back to 2X (4X is max as it's an external HP USB burner - No overburn either ). GO for the burn..... SUCCESS ! Disk 1 is produced.

I have had this many times before. Even re-running the whole thing with CCE again can sometimes fix it. Disks 1 and 3 seem to be the problem disks... never any even numbers ?

Anyone got any ideas ?

Thanks,

Neil.;)

I got one for ya. Spend the $72 at newegg.com and order yourself a Lite-on 32X CD-RW. Problems solved.
[oops] just noticed your from England...anyway order it from wherever.

I have 16X takes 6mins 10secs to burn a full 804MB SVCD.
24X liteon takes 4mins 30secs
32X liteon takes 4mins
from what I've read 40X would take about 3mins 40secs. To me it's not worth $85-$72=$13 extra for 20secs per cd...cuz of the reported errors writing at 40X.

"The test results showed that at the 40x writing speed, the drive produced a high error rate..." here (http://www.cdrinfo.com/Sections/Articles/Specific.asp?ArticleHeadline=40x%20CD-RW%20Roundup%20Vol1&index=10)

Have you ever tried the "Foolproof" (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=19415) way to burn an SVCD?

Try it, it works. I actually replaced a DVD player because I thought it wouldn't read SVCDs, but it turned out to be the way I was burning them. After using the "Foolproof" (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=19415) method, my SVCDs work perfectly in that player.

Edit: Sorry missed mention of Deamon tools on your last post. Re-read your post, are the sizes of the first and second CDs very different? I have noticed that my second CD is usually 1 ro 2 megs smaller than the first. Maybe this is the problem. I had a similar problem with an older version of NTI which wouldn't let me burn over 700MB (as it reported the size) to a CD and the images created by DVD2SVCD were reported as 702MB or 703MB. Try reducing the file size like Nick suggested, maybe that will take care of it.

@mrbass

A similar thread about burning nearby:
see this thread (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=24704)
I noticed that you are suggesting a Lite-On 32x/12x/40x. That same model is available at OfficeMax in the US as "CenDyne Lightning II 32X/12X/40X" for $69 after rebates. I have it but have not yet installed it.

I was wondering if people have any ideas about Master/Slave position with the DVD-ROM and CD-RW.

Should the Lite-On be the Master or Slave, closer or farther away from the motherboard on the IDE cable? My DVD-ROM drive is 16x.

Now,
I love the idea of having a (almost) one-button-tool that copies my dvds.

But,
since I've tried burning my images with 3 different CD writers all built in the last 4 years and never got a usable SVCD out of that d**n recorder (I mean really not even 1), I think it is like a "sign" to me, maybe from up above, that I should not occupy with such things at all...

Finally,
as this thread is obviously too long and I really don't want to make it any longer, I can write down my machine's data and movie's data and maybe someone reads this and says: "Hey, I know what his prob is! He'll surely be glad if I ive him a little hint!"

YES HE WILL !!!
So here's the stuff:
TEAC (TRAXDATA) CD-R56S (SCSI) 6x
Prog: Fireburner 2.17
OS: WinXP Home
Image file:
Mode:2, Sector Size: 2352
Pregap time: 2sec
Track time: (1) 00:07:20
(2) 73:44:47
Postgap: 0
Total time: (1) 00:09:20
(2) 73:46:47
Sum: Time: 73:53:67
Sectors: 332542

ERROR MSG: Sense Error: ILLEGAL_REQUEST (INVALID FIELD IN PARAMETER LIST) (0x05 0x26 0x00)

Image duration not too long (80min cdr)!

Dunno what to try, help.... heeeeelp :-)

I had this problem along time ago and came up with a very simple solution. First i thought the images were bad much as yourself but it seems that alot of burning programs have trouble opening these images which are not realted to the images but more so a problem with the software.

My solution was to use a program called Daemon Tools to open the image as a virtual cd drive on the hard drive. That can be found at this url http://www.daemon-tools.com/ .

Once the image is opened up most cd burning programs (I found that easy cd creator 4 had trouble as it doesnt like overburning in any way shape or form) will do a cd to cd copy by using the virtual cd drive as the source disc.

Thats probably the most fool proof way to burn it, and the added advantage is that you can use your dvd software to check your rip before your burn it to disc.

Hope that helps!

I have similar problems burning with a Pioneer DVR 104.
I have actually swapped this drive back to my old Richo CDRW and it always works perfectly so it is definitely drive dependent (for me).
The ONLY way I have found of making my Pioneer work with these images is to use Fireburner V1.06 in TAO mode.
Using the "foolproof method" always results in an unreadable disc being burned.
This obviously indicates that my Pioneer has some issue with the format of these images but I have as yet not found the time to look deeply enough into the problem.

Try Fireburner V1.06 in TAO mode and see if it works.

dont know whether this is the same problem but i had problems burning with my Cyberdrive 16X12X40 CD burner. dvd2svcd was creating images of 804 MB and just could not get nero 5.5.8.0 to burn these without using the overburn option. I changed my cd size setting in the bitrate tab to 796 all the way down. This now creates images of 802 MB and i have no problem burning these now at all.
