I find it useful...
Q: How do I use Eugene's Player to play a DVD from my hard drive?
A: Use SmartRipper, in file mode, making sure to copy ALL of the files. Make a folder named "Video_ts" at the root of one of your hard drives (ie: C:\Video_ts\), and use this folder as the target. The other default settings of "file mode" should work fine. Start the rip. Open the .ifo you wish to with Eugene's Player. Chapters and menus should all work.
Rationale: Playing movies from the hard drive does two things:
1-virtually eliminates stutter during playback caused by buffer snafus, irreglar spins, etc.
2-spares the life of your DVD-ROM drive. It takes approximately 20 minutes to rip a 2 hour movie. Obviously your DVD-ROM drive gets less wear and tear when spinning for twenty minutes than when spinning for two-plus hours. Hard drives are designed specifically for this kind of use (ironically DVD-ROMs wear out easily-kind of like disposable razors, I guess)...
The drawbacks to this method are that it requires alot of hard drive space, and that it takes a bit of time (prep-work), limiting spontenaity...
The day after I wrote this, I checked doom9's homepage and found that he has since elaborated on his post above. Click here (http://www.doom9.org/mpg/hd-playback.htm) to read it...
