View Full Version : Ratatouille

Before the Grandchildren have a chance to ruin this film, I decided to back it up using AnyDVD and DVD RB.
Having read a thread by Blutach or Setarip (?) I did not rip/build to iso.
Processing the whole movie using progressed without a hitch and I checked the end product using PowerDVD (Trial) and it was spot on.
I then used Imageburn to create and burn the iso on to TY blanks. The DVD works perfectly on the computer but NOT on my LG stand alone DVD Player.
This is the first time I have come across this.
I don't think its a RB problem but didn't know where to post.
Can anybody shed some light on this.
Cheers

Well, without your log/ini and a precise description of what is not right on your player, we cannot divine if anything went wrong in DVDRB. Onbe thing you need to be aware of is that there are angles in that movie - maybe 10 cells have 2 angles. And non-seamless branching (at the end).

Thanks Les.
I know about the angles. The other seamless bit is a "foreign Language"

If it runs on the computer (from the disc) and not from your standalone... it would seem to indicate that the problem is in the media or the writer. Have you tried buring it again?

Thanks jdobbs et al.
I have cleared all previous rips etc about ratatouille and am about to start again...........green field site?
Will rip to hard drive using AnyDVD, and then process whole album, untouched, using RB (with HC) and see how it goes.
Win, lose or draw I will then repeat the whole process but this time I will steal some space from extras, still with HC, and see how that goes.....and so on!
Proposals to use PGCEdit, "jump to first menu", and such like, fill me with dread, not because I'm reluctant to use the software because I know it will be first rate, but more because of a feeling about "where does it stop?"...... I only want to back up my own, bought and paid for DVD's, using (unless freeware), bought and paid for software.
I really have to become comfortable with the processes involved (bloody hell, I'm going on 65 and this stuff is really difficult).
For example, I am having difficulty with some of the software used for burning DVD's and would appreciate any advice on this.

What you could to try is ripping the whole DVD again, and then run it through DVD-RB Pro using just the 'movie only' option and see what happens then
Then the kids can watch the movie as much as they want, I assume they don't want the extras, just want to watch the main film
I personally use DVD Decrypter with AnyDVD doing all the hard work of decoding with DVD Decrypter doing the ripping, I've had one DVD in literally years of use that Any DVD/DVD Decrypter just couldn't handle and said it would take well over 20-30 hours to rip and some stupid file sizes, and I used AnyDVD Ripper to rip that
Also, make sure if possible you have the very latest non-beta release as they dp manage to break things in beta releaseses, and have to fix it again in the next release, plus they do add specific code for specfic DVds in each release as they come across a 'problem' DVD

Thanks steptoe.
What you say makes sense and I will use the suggested pair of AnyDVD and DVD Decrypter followed of course by RB.
As far as burning is concerned, does it make sense to build an iso, mount it using Daemon tools and then Imgburn, not bother with the mounting?

No need for that. Either make an ISO and burn or output to files and burn in ImgBurn's build mode.

Just about to start the process suggested by you guys and it dawned on me that, apart from the Elby bit in the I/O settings of the Decrypter, is there anything else I should know about the settings.
I remember reading a thread somewhere (?) about the settings but am damned if I can remember where!!

Thats the settings I used, and it works fine
I would install IMGBurn though and let DVD-RB auto-burn after the process, its free and a very compatable burning engine with standalone DVD players of all models and it does actually work unlike some other software I've used in the past
You could always turn on the option to have an output folder but not to burn the DVD, then check the DVD-RB produced DVD before burning it

Hi steptoe,
Tried the AnyDVD/DVD Decrypter and it could not handle the rip. There was an error message which I (of course) forgot to note down. It was in the movie part of the disc and had something to do with a blank VOB (I will replicate for you when I get home) and further processing was skipped.
However, using AnyDVD on its own produced a rip on the hard drive which RB happily processed as movie only.
How I wish that I could understand this kind of thing!!
Cheers
