Both (vsfilter and ffdshow) doesn't playback vobsub (idx + sub) subtitles properly (http://bayimg.com/IAJkhaaBB). At other side MPC do it fine.
I have muxed VobSub subtitles into mkv. I'm using latest Haal Splitter

Need installed DirectVobSub too (contain in MPC as internal filter).
If You don't want use DirectVobSub (VSFilter) with other files (AVI, ...)...
You can set Do not load in DirectVobSub configuration and Autoload VSFilter in Haali configuration.

Uh, indeed. Sorry.
What's used version DirectVobSub and ffdshow?
You add VobSub subtites used MKVtoolnix or some other?
Any sample file?

ffdshow tryouts rev 1862 - feb 15 2008
and VSFilter_20070918.zip
as I understand ffdshow just include VSFilter code.
I use mkvtoolmix v2.1.0
As I said before both ffdshow and VSFilter show crap (maybe they think this is UTF-8 text, not image)
At other side MediaPlayerClassic build-in subtitle renderer works fine...
Any sample file?
how to cut some piece from mkv (Ac3 + h264 + vobSub)?

The subtitle code in ffdshow is not based on VSFilter.
Does the same thing happen with Gabest's splitter?

VobSub 2.23
MKVtoolmix 2.1.0
Haali Media Splitter 1.7.401.3 (29-12-2007)
ffdshow tryouts rev1873 (26-02-2008) clsid generic build
DirectVobSub 2.38 (18-09-2007) clsid patched build
I'm rip few subtitles, mux to MKV and play... can't reproduce this 'effect'.
SubRip (.srt) UTF-8 i'm check too... can't reproduce.

I'm afraid... only splitting used mkvmerge.
Or maybe provide only subtitles...?
------
It's himself made (ripped or converted) subtitles (used...?)?
And this problem is with many VobSub subtitles or only specific one?

It's FIRST time i'm using VobSub subtitles. It's ripped subtitles.
Oups. I'm really confused, I can't reproduce this bug again. I dont understand why (i doesn't change nothing) but now verything is ok... Very strange...

You might want to try muxing the subs as xsubs in a divx container instead. If your player is DivX cerified, then it should work and you don't need to re-encode. External srt's should also work on most players. No choice in font, etc. though.
Personally (if I wanted to re-encode) I would just use XviD (via XviD) to encode. You can still hardsub, just frameserve with AVISynth and use VSFilter.
