The lossless intermediate file option in HC022.1 speeds up encoding greatly with slow scripts. My encodes usually run at 3-5fps on an overclocked E6750 so running two passes at this speed makes my projects run very long. Using the lossless intermediate file, the second pass is lightning fast compared to the first one. The speed of the first pass is not affected that much, the lossless encoding doesn't seem to require much CPU time.
Even if HC022.1 is officially labeled as beta, I'm sure the option will remain in any forthcoming HC version.
