TV Shows are always encoded around 60% quality. How is dvd rebuilder the best program for this, when, let's say dvd fab can do it at the same quality? I am using the latest dvd reuilder pro and I don't mind the time it takes to encode as long as I know this is the best program and would improve the quality over a program such as dvd fab. If dvd fab can do it in under 1 hour and dvd rebuilder does it in about 3 to 4, but the quality is the same, I would be wasting time. Someone, please help me understand.

Thanks

Also, what would be the best settings for tv series to get the best quality out of each episode?

If you don't notice a difference in quality, then go with DVD Fab. It's ultimately up to you if the quality vs encoding time trade-off is worth it. I went with DVD Rebuilder since I noticed a lot of artifacts when using Shrink.

Plus, the ability to use custom AVS scripts in Rebuilder is awesome. It greatly cleaned up my Robotech and Macross DVDs. Granted, encoding took forever, but the outcome was more than worth it. Quality improvement was so great that I've even made a backup of my backups.

They don't give the same quality outputs. DVDFab uses a transcoder (a poor one at that) while DVD Rebuilder uses encoders. Encoders will always be better than transcoders.

See this thread for more info: http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=135233 or do a search on this forum for comparative tests.

You are confusing reduction % with quality, they are not the same, it only means the souurce requires 60% reduction in size to fit on a DVD5. Of course both programs would report the same reduction value with the same source.

An encoder is better than a transcoder, period.

That's a good way of explaining things! :thanks:

ilovejedd, just wondering.. what filters did you use for your robotech series? I have the whole DVD set, and wouldn't mind cleaning them up
