View Full Version : Normalise the volume on a CD

My dad wants to put together a CD of punk songs from his collection to play at a get-together he's having. We've got all the tracks here ripped from his CD's, but they're all at varying volumes (to burn onto CDR, either in the process or afterwards).
Does anyone know an easy way to normalise them? WMP (ick) has such functionality, but only for Mp3 files. I'd rather avoid having to compress them unless I have to for obvious reasons.

Nero can normalize tracks before burning.

You could use Audacity to normalize the tracks, it's free. Then just burn them as an Audio CD with any software you like.

Also, Exact Audio Copy (http://www.exactaudiocopy.de/) rules with everything related to Audio CDs.

Try WaveGain (http://members.home.nl/w.speek/Wavegain.htm)
Notice the "album gain" button.
I use Mp3Gain, which uses the same methodology (ReplayGain) for MP3 files.

Actually, albumgain will keep the volume differences between each song. You need trackgain to make all songs the same volume.
Personally i use replaygain of Foobar2000 (which simply adds a tag with both album and track volume info to each track) and burn with a program called Burrrn.

One more vote for Foobar2k + Burrrn!

Woops. So I should have said "Notice the album gain button -- and turn it off".

A tag? Does that work with wave?
