Hi,

I am looking for a while now to put subtitles into a iTunes movie, but except for burning them into the video I failed.

I'd like to have two subtitle tracks in iTunes, i.e. engish and german. And it would be nice if iTunes displayed the subtitles in the control panel. The one you see in full screen view when playing a movie.

Thanks for help od ideas!

When you say iTunes movie, do you mean MP4?

If so, you can mux subtitles into MP4 with Yamb. Now, if you want to burn them in, you have to re-encode the video.

If you want on on my default, I believe you can set that option in your player.

Hi!If so, you can mux subtitles into MP4 with Yamb.Have you successfully played/displayed such a multiplexed file in either iTunes or the QuickTime Player?
I ask because I believe our friends at Apple have specific requirements for adding/displaying subtitles...

MPEG4/3GP Timed Text subtitle are supported by QuickTime 7. QuickTime will display the subs only in files with the extension *.3gp. MP4Box includes the subtitle like it is done in 3GP files(tx3g box).
So it seems that QuickTime ignores a box/atome if this isn't defined in the used file format(make sense). But if the way to store the same subtitle format in MP4 files(in MPEG-4 system context), is supported by Quick Time, is an other question.

Actually, the latest QT and iTunes versions support both CC AND subtitles.

CC are, by their very nature, intended for hard of hearing people, and have a long history in Television broadcasting.
They are limited to 32 characters in length per line, and putting subtitles into CC format means reformatting subtitles. it's not the best way to go if that's Subtitles you want.

Subtitles on the other hand are supported in Quictime MP4 files (and maybe mov ??), you can find menus for them into iTunes and QT, but I've yet to find the exact format they are encoded in, or even a file that has iTunes-recognized subtitles embedded into them

I think that describing the format, and even having a way to subtitles into an mp4 / QT way would benefit to all, since subtitles have always been a pain to use with Quicktime, even with Perian's release (SRT are supported, but not on AppleTV, or iPhones, and in Front Row, they result in a black screen from the time the first subtitle appears, due to a bug in Front Row.)
