View Full Version : TMPGEnc choppy video during WMV-HD encoding

I'm wondering if someone could help shed some light as to what could be happening here. I am using TMPEnc 4.0 Xpress to re-encode MKV sources to WMV-HD. I have the following DirectShow filters installed:

* CoreAVC 1.6.5
* Haali Media Splitter 1.7.359.22
* AC3Filter 1.46

I can successfully load the source into TMPGEnc. However, when I view the source in it's editor, I get some pretty choppy playback. The source framerate is detected correctly at 23.976. MediaInfo confirms this as well. If I were to encode this as is, the WMV is choppy as well. Meaning, it appears to be skipping frames during playback and encode.

If I change the framerate to something else (23.969, 23.978, 24, etc.) I can get smoother playback. However, depending on which framerate I use, there will be a missed or skipped frame as specific intervals during playback and encode.

Now, if I have a Blu-ray source, the source FPS is detected correctly (23.976), and both playback inside TMPGEnc and encode are perfect. No video choppiness, or stuttering.

I'm hoping someone here as run into this, or could help shed some light on this.

BTW, here are my systems specs:

* Windows Vista Home Premium 32bit, no SP1
* Intel Q6600 OC'd to 3GHz
* 4GB PC6400 RAM (2x2GB)
* Seagate 7200RPM 500GB
* Hitachi 7K1000 1TB

Re-encode from your original sources, not the MKV.

Gee. Thanks. Didn't realize that one. :thanks:

If I did have the source, instead of the MKV, I wouldn't be asking this question.
