View Full Version : HC Encoder and "Extracting Video"?

I upgraded to 1.27.1 today and noticed something that I have not seen before, not that it hasn't always done this.

I run a quad core processor and HC encoder is set to run multiple instances. When encoding all four instances start but I notice that sometimes only 1, 2 or 3 instances were running. I noticed that it would go back to 4 instances after the following lines in the log:

Extracting Video for VTS_01 segment #

It is like Rebuilding is waiting to launch any more HC encoders until after it runs that extraction. Is this normal?

Thanks,
Havoc

That's something I updated on this version. I found that sometimes performing both an extraction and an encode simultaneously would cause a considerable slowdown. Sometimes (when extracting a large segment) a huge slowdown. So now if there is a segment to be extracted it waits until encodes are complete.

If it turns out to be a hassle, I'll change it back -- or at least add a flag to enable/disable it.

Here's the entry from the change log:- Corrected an issue that could slow processing considerably
when a combination of encoding and extracting is occurring.

Also, the last 3, 2 and 1 segments respectively will encode on only 3, 2 and 1 processors cos HCEnc is (currently) forced to be NOSMP.

I just downloaded the newest Pro version onto my two computers, one works fine, on the other I am having a problem with the HC encoder, when it opens, a reading comes on that it cannot load Avyisynth, then on the Rebuilder scroll it says the encoder is not working. I then uninstalled/re-installed the program, no help, I then downloaded HC direcrly into Rebuilder, same effect. I then tried the QU encoder and it worked. I,ve had the program for a little over a year,(I love it), and rarely had any problems. Would appreciate any help.

I've heard of that problem a few times but it's apparently very rare and I'm still not sure what causes it -- I'd like to hear from Hank315. It obviously has something to do with HC's ability to read D2V files directly... but DVD-RB doesn't use that.

I've heard that updating AVISYNTH corrects it -- but that makes no sense to me.

Try uninstalling HC completely, uninstalling DVD-RB and uninstalling AVISYNTH. Then run DVD-RB and let it do a complete install (including AVISYNTH).

Please report back so I can see what's up with this... I've never been able to repeat it.

I did all you said, and it now works. I believe tho, I might have omitted to associate Avisynth with either of the two choices in the beginning of the install, I did this time, might have been the problem. Thank you.
