This is gonna sound pretty stupid, but here is goes:

I gotta few VHS tapes I wanna capture with new "Dazzle" 2 device.
These are not "svhs" tapes, but just normal vhs ones(purchased
movies). I noticed the Dazzle has a "S-video input, and I'm wondering
if I connected a SVHS player to the DAZZLE would the capture be
any better. Would it even make a difference?

If it would improve the quality of the capture, I would go
buy SVHS player in a heartbeat...even if it was just a small
(but noticable) improvement.

Any help clearing this up will be appreciated :)!

Thanks in advance -- DigiL.

It depends on how the VHS-taped originally were recorded. If they were recorded with RGB-in on a standard VHS then you will notice a difference when they are played on a SVHS-recorder with S-video out (because chroma and luma are kept seperate). But if the tapes were recorded from the composite video in the visual "defects" would have been stored on the tape and no SVHS recorder in the world would help you. Finally - if the internal tuner is the source it is hard to tell. It depends on if the recorder uses RGB or composite internally. My guess would be that they use composite since video is normally handled as UYV internally. In this case an SVHS recorder won't help you either.

It should also be noted that SVHS and S-Video are not the same thing.

Forgive me if you realise this already.

You can have a VHS signal going through an S-video cable.
and you can have an SVHS signal going through an RCA cable.

Just remember... RCA bad... S-video good... Fire Bad....

Probably the S-VHS Video recorder is of somewhat better quality than the VHS recorder, plus the S-Video cable is better than a cinch cable, so it will probably be the better solution to use the S-VHS. I don't say it will be much better, but it can't hurt to use the best components you have, can it?
