Hi all,
after changing my harddisk setup i'm encountering severe performance problems when running some apps from my typical workflow (ProjectX -> Cuttermaran -> DGindex / Muxman).
Since my old Windows installation / harddisk setup is gone, i cannot compare the new figures to the old ones. Can you please give me your numbers (ProjectX, Cuttermaran, DGindex, Muxman) for comparison and/or advice? Thanks a lot!
My old HD setup:
- First HD: Western Digital 320GB
- Second HD: Western Digital 200 GB
My new HD setup:
- First HD: Western Digital 750 GB
- Second HD: RAID0 from 2x Western Digital 320 GB
Two HD Tach screenshots for both HD setups:

When measuring the HD performance of the mentioned apps with Process Explorer (Microsoft / Sysinternals) i get the following numbers for I/O throughput (refresh rate 1 second):
1) ProjectX demultiplex (harddisk to RAID): 62 MB/s (simultaneously reading + writing, so 31 MB/s each)
2) Cuttermaran reading in video (RAID): 26 MB/s
3) Cuttermaran cutting (RAID to harddisk): 90 - 136 MB/s (simultaneously reading + writing)
4) DGindex creating project, no demultiplex (harddisk): 21.5 MB/s
5) Muxman creating DVD structure (harddisk to RAID): 109 MB/s (simultaneously reading + writing, so 55 MB/s each)
1) http://img225.imageshack.us/img225/5512/projectxok2.th.png (http://img225.imageshack.us/my.php?image=projectxok2.png) 2) http://img292.imageshack.us/img292/3212/cuttermanreadinti7.th.png (http://img292.imageshack.us/my.php?image=cuttermanreadinti7.png) 3) http://img292.imageshack.us/img292/1895/cuttermancuttingox5.th.png (http://img292.imageshack.us/my.php?image=cuttermancuttingox5.png) 4) http://img225.imageshack.us/img225/1416/dgindex1sa9.th.png (http://img225.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dgindex1sa9.png) 5) http://img246.imageshack.us/img246/4711/muxmanly0.th.png (http://img246.imageshack.us/my.php?image=muxmanly0.png)
Since my new harddisk setup is rather fast (see HD Tach graph) i would say the numbers should be much higher (up to 90 MB/s since it's nearly linear file access). Also processor usage is low, so there's no bottleneck. Especially ProjectX, Cuttermaran (reading in video) and DGindex should show much higher numbers.
Maybe there's one aspect that's worth mentioning: I moved my existing windows installation to the new harddisk. So i suspect windows by somehow slowing down hd access.
Thanks a lot for any help!
