hey guys,

i urently need advice on this subject, so pls feel free to post on this matter. first of, i read a couple of threads in this forum but they won't help so far.
- data-names matches exactly
- no prob w/mpc (subs are there), no subs on s/a
- on a different movie all went perfect concerning the subs and my s/a..

..so where could i trace a possible error? all i did was editing the subs accoring to your site's nice guide. the time before it worked out well and now no subs on the s/a whereas the mpc plays them without a prob. the header seems to be the same, although palette seems to be different. i'd edited .idx + .sub. i also have an .srt but that's just txt-based, so i'd prefer the original format over .srt.

pls help me i need to get rid of that problem soon :)

my modded .idx looks like this (sub is already edited according to subresync):

# VobSub index file, v7 (do not modify this line!)
#
# To repair desyncronization, you can insert gaps this way:
# (it usually happens after vob id changes)
#
# delay: [sign]hh:mm:ss:ms
#
# Where:
# [sign]: +, - (optional)
# hh: hours (0 <= hh)
# mm/ss: minutes/seconds (0 <= mm/ss <= 59)
# ms: milliseconds (0 <= ms <= 999)
#
# Note: You can't position a sub before the previous with a negative value.
#
# You can also modify timestamps or delete a few subs you don't like.
# Just make sure they stay in increasing order.

I am sorry, but I am having a little trouble what exactly your error is. What are you trying to do, and what problem is preventing you from getting there?

You say the subs play fine in MPC, so what is wrong? Something to do with s/a? What is s/a?

s/a = my standalone dvd-player

my exact problem is that whereas the subs do play fine in mpc they don't show up while playing the file in my s/a. the strange thing is another file on which i modded the sub+idx aswell do play fine on the same s/a. so what's going on here?

btw. maybe converting the sub+idx to another format would help. any suggestions?

thx

I have a suggestion. Open it with subresynch and save it under another name. Then try the new file.

Cheers

done, doesn't work. now i've tested the file with the unedited sub's and even those won't show up while playing on my s/a. strange, maybe there's something wrong with the header of the .idx. you know, like the colors/palette/etc. is there a possibility to hardcoded those subs within the avi itself? i've read sth about a plugin for virtual dub (subtitler)...

edit: ok, now i'm almost hopeless. i've tried converting a lot of formats, editing the "overloaded by aligment
org" within the .idx and even creating my own sub out of an .srt using subtitlecreator. on the pc = fine, standalone = nothing shows up. my last hope is creating an .divx with embedded subs using something like aviaddxsubs. nonetheless i don't get it why, oh why do sub's show up on the pc and on the other hand no sub's on my s/a whereas other sub's on other files just play fine? it just doesn't make any sense...

Hi,

Could to try to open your subtitle with SubtitleCreator (Tools-> manipulate SUP...)? Then save it to VobSub and try again.

subtitlecreator won't even let me open the .idx. the prog just hangs. i'm now trying on the .sup file i've created before... and what a surprise. it doesn't work. anyway thx
