View Full Version : MeGUI / Vista - crash on file open

Hi all,
Long time MeGUI user here, just upgraded to Vista and was suffering from a crash everytime I tried to open a file (eg open an mpg in D2V Creator, open an AVS in AVS Script Creator etc). MeGUI would simply close - no error, no event in Windows Event Log, it would just close, as soon as I browsed to a folder containing a file that MeGUI could open.
I read a lot on here about Vista crashes but nothing exactly like this. However with piecing a lot of information together, I discovered that version 2.6.1036 works fine. Note I'm also using Avisynth 2.5.6a rather than 2.5.7, as 2.5.7 crashed when opening a file in WMP using DirectShowSource - 2.5.6a works okay. Not sure if the two issues are connected.
I'm quite happy using 1036, but if any devs read this and would like me to submit a proper bug report or something, I'd be happy to. In the meantime, hopefully this is useful to others suffering the same problem.
Cheers,
Chris

I had the exact same issue and the only fix was to downgrade avisynth to that version. but this created other problems for me. finally got it working by enabling developer update in megui to get 3.9.1004 but even that didn't fix it by itself so.. downloaded MediaInfo_0.7.6.2_DLL_Win32 (megui update only had 7.6.1) and restalled avisynth 2.5.7 and it Finally worked, updated to the latest vista codec pack (currently beta) and all issue of the crash and preview window now shows up. This fixed my issues with ac3 encoding also as megui would crash on the queue. Think I will stick with this for awhile as I'm going to approch it if it aint broke don't mess with it. I personally think MediaInfo was the main problem but ultimately i did all of the above to get this working on my Vista Ultimate x64 setup.

The same happened to me also. when I open a script in Megui then I should wait long long time to see the preview window, and no picture displayed at all.
I disable the preview in megui and directly encode the clip and it's works well.

Im having the same issue with megui crashing when trying to use avisynth scripts.
It has been working just fine for me up till today. I did let the autoupdate apply a patch, so I dont know if that had anything to do with it, but now it gives me the same error. When I try to create a script using the built in tool, megui crashes when attempting to open files. I then tried making the scripts in notepad and then trying to load them on the main megui page, but that also causes the crash.
I tried disabling the preview function, but that didnt help. I was thinking of trying to reinstall the version before the update, but Id like to try to avoid setting everything up again.
On a related note, I use to have this issue when I started using megui on vista for the first time, but something that was updated (wether it was megui, avisynth, etc) must have corrected the issue becuase Ive been using it just fine for weeks.

I have an issue when opening an "Open file" dialogue after I have enqueued something in the same session. Strange bug, but I can work around it by closing megui after I enqueue anything.
