View Full Version : DVD/HD-DVD/BR on PS3 & Multiple Audio Streams?

Hi Guys,

Ok, I've currently got a NAS box, with Twonky Media Server on it. I've got a number of backed up DVDs in DivX format on the NAS box and the PS3 plays them over the network all fine.

However, I want to do a couple of things

1) Re-encode some DVDs to include an additional audio stream (director's commentary & alike).
2) Rip HD-DVDs / BRs to whatever format I need to allow streaming to the PS3. (Also with multiple audio streams)

Obviously I appreciate its a legally grey area, but I'm no pirate, I simply want to have the films I buy in one place so I can watch at my leisure without having to hunt down the film's disc!

I've got AnyDVD HD (or will have soon), so I can rip them, but its the whole grey area of encoding that I've got the problem with at the moment. From the point at which AnyDVD finishes, what do I need to do with the HD ones?

The SD (divx) side of things I've used Gordian Knot in the past, but on my Vista 64 machine, it doesn't seem to want to work any more, and I don't think the PS3 supports multiple audio streams in AVIs anyway???

For all Rips, I'd like to keep the AC3 stream (or at least use OGG to keep the 5.1, if this is supported for the PS3). All my current DivX films have AC3 streams in them.

I appreciate its probably been covered before, I have spent about 10 mins with the search function, but I can find lots of discussion of the various points, but its all a bit confusing.

I'm pretty IT literate (am a developer), just not too up-to-date on HD encoding stuff.

Thanks for any help, its appreciated. Even if its a just a pointer to a thread that would be of help.

Actually, I've just managed to produce a DIVX AVI file with two audio streams which the PS3 can read, so that's sorted :D

Also, if one of the mods could move this to a more appropriate forum, after reading around the site a bit more, its probably misplaced. (Sorry)
