I am capturing video but I wnat to capture it to a format that I can use for two different reasons. I do not know what format to compress to or what capturing software to use.

I have an Osprey 300 and it is confusing to a newbie like myself. The capture card captures the video and the audio so I do not use the mic or line in on my pc for sound capture.

Once I have the file I want to be able to burn to a DVD\CD so I can watch on my DVD player which does support SVCD.

The second thing I want to do with the file is upload it to an online video company called Maxcast. The files they support are below and recommend it to be done at 640X480 or 800X600.

the following video types to Maxcast:

.WMV: All
.AVI: Most
.MPG, MPEG: Most

Any help on the software I should use and what type of file I should be compressing it to would be great.

I know you guys here are the best so thanks again,

Cris

Hi Cnuke

I think if your have enough HDD space you used AVI file is best. And you can capture the video at 800X600.
After you can use the authoring application compress the captured file to mpeg2 and make the DVD.

Remember, AVI, MPG, WMV, are all just containers that can have various compressed video inside. The Osprey 300 captures in DV, Which is compressed video in an AVI container. So that should be where you start. Then from the captured DV-AVI, you can convert to Mpeg 2, which is neccessary for DVD creation. Plus, it sounds like Maxcast will accept Mpeg 2 video, so you essentially "kill 2 birds with 1 stone".
