Hi, Guys!
Maybe you already know a simple way to capture DTS/AC3 stream transmitted via optical or coaxial S/PDIF and decode it "on-the-fly" by a computer.
The process is as follows:
- One computer (satellite receiver, dvd player, etc.) transmits DTS/AC3 stream via S/PDIF
- Another computer (that has a sound card with S/PDIF IN capability) receives the stream
- Is there and application that can capture and "on-the-fly" decode the stream on the second computer?
I was trying to do it using GraphEdit, but unsuccessfully. Help needed and muchly appreciated

Is the dts/ac3 stream coming from a dvd or dvb/satellite? Do you want to playback (realtime) the satellite program?
Every (almost) playback program can decode such streams.

I'm thinking about decoding of any DTS/AC3 streams transmitted via S/PDIF interface. This can be 48/16 or 44.1/16 DTS or DD streams. The realtime capture and playback is needed.
E.g. My satellite receiver can transmit PCM or DD (AC3) via optical S/PDIF. I can capture the stream with my Platinum SB 5.1 Live! sound card. It is not a problem to listen to PCM streams, but the DD streams sound like pink noise. All I want is to decode this stream "on-the-fly" to enjoy 5.1 surround sound.
Could you please recommend a playback program that can do such a thing. Especially, step by step instruction is important.
Thank you!

I am not sure i have understand what you 're trying to do...
How do you play the pcm stream which is transmitted to the pc via s/pdif? Don't you use a media player program?

No, I don't use any media player. I just use S/PDIF input in a mixer software that comes with the sound card. Any PCM signal transmitted by a STB or CD/DVD player digitally can be listened on my computer.
The problem is with non-PCM streams.

You can use the SB live ac3 decoder then. I believe it has one.

I'm not looking for solutions which are that simple. Is there any chance for "on-the-fly" decoding of DTS-encoded streams (44.1 and 48 kHz)?
Again, has somebody tried audio capture using GraphEdit? It doesn't matter PCM or non-PCM, the principle is important.

What is the final destination of the audio stream?

What is the final destination of the audio stream?
The final destination is a computer sound card that plays the decoded AC3 or DTS stream.

In other words, can we use a computer as an external decoder for home electronics like satellite set-top boxes, CD and DVD players that can transmit compressed digital sound via coaxial or optical S/PDIFs (AC3 and DTS streams). The idea is do it "on-the-fly".
The task related to recording of compressed streams via S/PDIF and subsequent playback on a computer has been successfully solved. How about this new one?
Your help is highly important for those people who are still planning to buy an A/V receiver or those for whom using of such receiver is inconvenient (e.g. far away from home but hankering for surround sound).

My Audigy 2 Platinum softmodded to Audigy 2 ZS Platinum with DTS ES support decoded the incoming AC3/DTS streams on the fly by changing the option in the Audio HQ panel.
I guess you could try to find if u can obtain softmodded drivers for ur SB Live card and see if theres any luck in gaining these functions for ur card.

Thanks a lot. That's a good starting point.
