Hi. I'm new to Doom9 so I'm hoping not to post anything too stupid. Right now I'm just looking for general direction on which topics I should be learning. I have been encoding mpeg2 captures with with GK to XviD, and making minor avisynth script adjustments. I have found many guides for beginners, and much advanced information. However, I fail to find much for intermediate users.

Before I start cleaning up video, what do I need to know about it, beyond whether it is interlaced or not? Where do I learn about grain and blurring, and other relevant topics?

Anyhow, if someone would throw me a bone, it would be very much appreciated. :):)

Welcome! You should know that nothing is black and white and that something is encoded progressive/interlaced doesn't mean it really is progressive/interlaced. There are many possibilities of its real content:
film, hard telecine, soft telecine, pure interlaced, frame blended, field blended (standards conversion), hybrid (progressive and telecined, progressive and interlaced)...

Are all of these possible on a NTSC capture using S-Video? Well just looking up those terms will keep me busy. Thanks.
