View Full Version : Noob Question: Why does AutoGK force 24 fps when I select 29 fps?

I'm really new to using AutoGK, and the search function wasn't working for me so PLEASE bear with me if this has been asked before.

I'm trying to compress video I've taken with my PV-GS300 (http://www.camcorderinfo.com/content/Panasonic-PV-GS300-First-Impressions-Camcorder-Review.htm) using AutoGK. The original file is shot at 29 fps, the same as all consumer cameras. However, whenever I try to compress it in AutoGK, the output file is 24 fps, even though I set it to 29 in the hidden option (Or whatever you call the options that pop up when you hit ctrl+F9), even when I click "OK", when I open the window again, it set itself back to 24 fps?

Help

Also, side question, I tried to read up a bit on what causes the horizontal lines and I was wondering what're the different ways to deinterlace a video? Again, extremely sorry if I'm using terms and other jargon incorrectly.

Very briefly. Film is shot at 24fps. To make it work on american analog tv they use a method where they take 4 frames and make it 5 frames or 29fps by interlacing part of one frame with the next. So autogk detects that this method was done and uses a complicated algorithm to get it back to the original 24fps (which is much better).
