View Full Version : Overlay weirdness

I am seeing some rather counterintuitive behavior from my ZoomPlayer (installed from recent CCCP). In short, I am able to play a certain MKV on my CRT monitor, but not on front projector. Both monitor and projector are hooked up to the same dual output video card, the monitor is connected via DVI->VGA, projector is DVI->HDMI (with HDCP). The MKV in question is 1080P, VC-1 encoded. When ZoomPlayer opens on CRT, everything is fine (CPU load is close to 100%, there's video and audio), but when it opens on projector, CPU load is 0%, there is audio, but no video. I tried selecting different overlays, and I can get video to display on projector with VMR7 and VMR9, but playback is very stuttery. On CRT it plays fine and smooth with "normal" overlay. Oh, yeah, the resolution on CRT is 1600x1200, and projector is 1280x720. What I don't get is what the hell is the difference between them??? I usually have only monitor active, and turn on the projector to play movies/games, and this setup worked as expected for couple years now (all the movies and recent games play fine either on CRT or projector depending on which one is selected as "primary" in windows display properties). This is the first time I see something that does not seem to make sense at all... Did anybody see anything like this? How would I go about troubleshooting the issue? (Something tells me that trusty old procmon is not going to be of much help.)

When you watch movies on your projector, do you have it selected as the primary and only monitor to be used? Overlay doesn't work for me in clone mode with projector. I'll have to choose my projector as the only display to be used.

Sorry for the late reply... Usually what I do is:

- physically turn on the projector
- do "extend desktop to this monitor" on projector
- do "use this monitor as primary" on projector

After which point PowerDVD plays DVDs on projector, beautifully upscaled, no problem. ZoomPlayer plays VGA-ish resolution AVI/MKV/etc (anime from torrents mostly) no problem. All the 3D games run without a hitch. Normally, I do not disable the CRT monitor to play movies/games on projector, and everything works fine. When I was trying to play this 1080P movie rip, I did try to disable the monitor completely, and it did not help.
