View Full Version : Display DVD Subtitles with Media Player Classic

When watching a DVD with Media Player Classic, I can't seem to view subtitles. I've made sure that I'm using the VMR9 option, and I check the "Enabled" option in the navigate menu under subtitles. I've played the DVD with VLC and Nero Showtime, and the subtitles appear just fine. What am I missing?

I'm running Vista Ultimate ...

Thank you.

Disable hardware aceleration in the video decoder. VMR9, EVR and haali support subtitles but haali does not work with cyberlink decoder, mpc gives a macrovision error.

Sorry for this n00b question, but how do I disable hardware accelaration? I can't find it in the options for MPC anywhere.

Thanks

Hardware acceleration (or DXVA) is an option in the filter/video decoder used.

in my case I use cyberlink's decoder for mpeg2 (dvd).
You may be using nero decoder. check the pic but in your system search for the proper decoder in you case and disable HW accel (dxva) in the filter options.

None of the filterw that show up on the menu have an option to disable DXVA. I know this sounds dumb, but I'm not even sure what decoder I'm using. It's not Nero or Cyberlink since neither shows up.

I played the DVD on VLC, and the subtitles appear without problems. So it's not a missing codec or anything like that.

Thanks for all your help so far.

Except that VLC has all codecs it will ever use built into the executable and thus won't tell you anything about problems with DirectShow codecs...

np: Tortoise - TNT (Nobukazu Takemura Remix) (A Lazarus Taxon (Disc 2))

Provide a list of the filters used by mpc when decoding dvd. or use ffdshow to decode the dvd video.

Here's a list of the DVD filters that appear when I play a disc.

Default DirectSound Device
Video Mixing Render 9 (Renderless)
Microsoft MPEG-2 Video Decoder
AC3 Filter

Using MPC options go to external filter, click "add filter" search for "Microsoft MPEG-2 Video Decoder" then 2x click it and put block on it. try again and see the list of filters again and see if subs are working. You can try Directvobsub instead of the internal subs renderer.
