done... tscv guide completely rewritten

That's it, at the moment I'm uploading a completely rewritten TSCV guide to my servers. This one contains all the bugs and workarounds and I have a truly working disc to show for (xml is supplied so you can verify it). Sadly I can't give you an actual image file (it's 1 CD large) but I wrote the guide while messing with TSCV not like last time so every step should be as accurate as it gets.
atm tscv is a bit tricky because of all the bugs (which I submitted to the official tscv forum in the hope that they'll be fixed soon).. but it can be done ;)

Very well done, Doom. Must have been a lot of work. A few additions:
FantomCD loads the images VCDImager creates just fine. This is how I have done most of my final testing without burning too many coasters.
And yes, TSCV *must* add an option to adjust timing offsets for chapters on the second and subsequent CDs.
Well, I'm sure we'll see that soon.
Thanks a lot.

well.. the difference between deamon tools and fantomcd is the price mostly ;) and I always use CD-RWs for my test burns so I don't waste any blanks either.
we'll see how tscv comes along in the future. but now you can actually use it if you stick to my instructions.. I really put every bug I encountered into the guide. I also think the whole program logic needs a 2nd look.. the way you create and add menus isn't always very obvious.

From Doom9's TSCV Guide...
"For some reason TSCV also linked my button 4, which I didn't want so I set it to endlist (which does nothing) as it's not possible to make the field empty again (another bug)."
There is a way to "empty the field again". Touch the field with your mouse left button. When all links appears (menu-0, selection m1-0,...) press the delete button (Del). It works for all the intructions ( Previous, Next, Return, Timeout,...).

ahh... another workaround. Anyways.. I mentioned the problem in the ttools forum. And on his request I wrote the author a long mail explaining all the bugs and things I'd like to have changed to make the program more straightforward..

glad you like it.
@antonio: there will be an empty selection in the next version.. ttools is working hard to fix the bugs

Doom9:
There is also a TSCV-Submux version. As soon as I get it I will send it to you...

Domm9:
I tried to send you last version of TSCV that includes Submux, but your server rejects it. Sorry...

to which email addy did you send? I think the max size for attachments is 5mb.. try to split it up... thewef always sends me gknot as 2 rars (it's roughly a 5mb package too) and that works just fine

Doom9:
Your guide finally gor me to try the TSCV out, thanks :)
Now I'm also one in the gang that have had success. I have done a SVCD from old VHS and video8 familymovies. The seemless chapters and the professional look of the menus with moviethumnails makes you feel good :D
As you have mentioned there is some bugs. I also had problems with crasches when I tried to make more then one menumovie before I closed the menumaker section. I also tried to burn the image with CDRDAO which stalled with some message about an illegal integer (in the German lang.) when the leadin was written and the burning process have reached 4 %. I burned the image with CDRWIN 3.8D without problem though.
Anyway, TSCV is an advanced software that, from now on, really works.

In your guide - perfectly done - thanx - is a reference to ChapterXtractor plugin for TSCV - where to get it? I have loaded the newest ver. of TSCV from site of origin but no plugins at all.

from the guide:
For multiple CDs I'm afraid you'll have to do some manual tinkering. Only create the chapters that are on the first CD at first, then for the 2nd CD you have to subtract the play time from the 1st CD to create correct chapter points.
hmmm...
isn't this feature already in tscv??
just enter the playtime of each of Your CDs where it says 'import chapters from', check 'more than 1 disc' and specify the number of the disc You're currently working on where it says: 'Import disc is No' and then after importing the chapters via the chapterXtractor plugin You should only get the chapters that are on this disc - correctly subtracted the size of any previous CD!
Just wondering why this isn't mentioned in Your guide...

@lcask: from the guide: Back in TSCV select Plugins - ChapterXtractor chapter import. the guide is based on the version that's available for download on my page.. can't guarantee it's the same with other versions (that's the point of linking a guide to a downloadable piece of software).
@guru: does that work? I kinda figured it would only apply if you load the chapter info from txt files using the buttons on the right so I never paid much attention to the left part of the screen in that tab.. does it work with the chapterxtractor plugin?

@doom9: well, it works somewhat...
in general, yes - but when the second disc EXACTLY begins at a chapter boundary, tscv (or the Xtractor plugin) seems to forget the second chapter and continues with the third...
so lets say the first disc is 60000 frames long which also is the start of the 10th chapter, the 11th chapter would be at 65000 and the 12th at 70000...
upon calculation for the 2nd disc, the 1st chapter (start) would be at 0, the second at frame 5000 (65000 - 60000), the third at frame 10000 (70000 - 60000) and so on...
tscv generates correctly the first at frame 0 BUT then the next at frame 10000 :-( so it 'forgets' the 11th chapter at 5000!
Of course, there's a workaround for this one: just set the playtime of the first cd to one frame more (or less, don't remember exactly as I am at work now... I will verify this in more depth when I'm back at home) and suddenly the second chapter appears again :-)
okay - then there's a small in-accuracy of 1 frame, but everyone can live with that, I guess...

Is it possible to set up menu in TSCV in a way that after each chapter SVCD will not continue by next chapter but will return to menu? I tried to set up in "timeout" of each chapter "smenu-0" but not worked and movie continued by next chapter...
For explanation - I have a one single .mpg where are 5 stories that I want to select in menu independently and after finishing the story SVCD should return to menu not starting next story.
Should I cut .mpg to 5 .mpg by stories?
Thanx for any advice

I think You have no other possibility to achieve this than cutting the altogether mpeg in 5 separate parts...
this is because the chapters are only there when navigating, NOT when playing!
Indeed - if You take a closer look at the .cue file - the chapters are nothing else but index marks that are only taking into account when pressing 'prev.-chapter' or 'next-chapter'; when just playing the mpeg those index marks are ignored (I don't know if this is the true story, but at least it sounds senseful, doesn't it? :o)
So IMHO You have no chance but cutting the mpeg into the chapters You want...
