I'm having some problems using EAC3to to convert the audio track of an HD-DVD. I tried it w/ Nero 8 until i read that it is not compatible. I pulled out an old copy of Nero 7 and installed it. Now i get a different error when i try to convert a DD+ to an AC3:
The libav decoder crashed.
I then got the following error when i run eac3to.exe -test
Nero Audio Decoder (Nero 7 or older) is not working correctly
Sonic Audio Decoder (4.3.0.169) works fine
Haali Media Splitter doesn't seem to be installed
Surcode DTS Encoder doesn't seem to be installed
MkvToolnix doesn't seem to be installed
Any idea what this could be?
woah!

First of all make sure you have the latest eac3to version.
The DD+ audio is demuxed from the evo files? If yes you don't need the splitter.
You get nero is not working correctly because you need to buy the nero hd dvd/blu-ray plug in.
What is the command you used? Did you used the -libav switch? You can use it as an alternate decoder if you don't have nero. But it is crashing for you. The decoder is under development, maybe that's the reason for crashing. Did you got a message to send a sample?
And :logfile: please.
There is a dedicated thread for eac3to. You should have posted there.

I've already demuxed from evo files. I was curious if i had to use the Nero decoder. I have PowerDVD and use it to watch my HD-DVDs. Can i use this to decode? Also, i'm not sure what -libav does. I tried it w/ no luck. also, EAC3Gui lets me chose a decoder from Nero, Sonic & Orbitlee. Also, my is Nero 7.10. here is the full output:
C:\Program Files\EAC3toGUI>eac3to.exe "C:\Documents and Settings\user\Desktop\demux\audio.ddp" "C:\Documents and Settings\user\Desktop\demux\audio.ac3"

oops, sorry. 2.14. appears to be the latest

eac3to can use nero, sonic or the free and under development libav/ffmpeg decoder. Nothing else.
When you don't set a decoder (the -libav option) the default is being used. The default decoder for DD+ files is nero, but since version 2.14 the libav decoder is also running in the background. This was done to help the development.
The errors you see is from the libav decoder. The track should have been decoded fine with nero decoder though. Did you get the output ac3 file? You should.
If you want to help the development of the free libav decoder, send a sample of your track (follow the instructions).
EDIT: I forgot you don't have the plug in for nero decoder. So no output ac3 file.

I'll upload a new eac3to version tomorrow. There is a chance that the problem will be fixed then. If not, we'll talk again tomorrow.

Thanks, just tried -libav and it works just fine! How come the latest GUI doesn't have that option??
The Sonic 4.2 and the ffmpeg (-libav), I tried both, gave me identical filesize outputs! I thought everyone says Sonic doesn't work? It did for me! Does it not work on all soundtracks, just some??

The GUI is outdated. Don't use it!
Read the 1st post in the big eac3to thread. All your questions regarding decoders will be answered.

Interesting. It seems I missed this thread the 1st time around. I would be very grateful for a small snippet of that file. If it really does use enhanced coupling, having that sample would help me add support for it in the libavcodec E-AC-3 decoder. (also having a FLAC of the decoded output from Nero would be twice as good ;))
