Can someone explain 1280 x 1080? I'm feeding Cinevsion a 1920x1080p QT and its wants to spit out 1280 X 1080?? (VC-1) Why?

Are you sure the source is 1920x1080?
Have never had Cinevision but it might just by default keep the resolution of the output the same as input.

Just a guess.

Yes...Ive check several times. The source is 1920x1080 yet Cinevision only gives me 1280x1080 once I add the media.

Here's a google link with some more info if you like to read it:

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=1280x1080+VC-1

BTW...this file was originally was shot 720p DVC Pro HD then scaled to 1920x1080 for testing purposes only so I think this may have something to do with it.

I'm just trying to find out what 1280x1080 is and why its an option in Cinevision.

I guess I don't understand how 1280x1080 can be a 16x9 format?

It's 'anamorphic'

1920x1080 is sometimes broadcast as 1440x1080, 1280x1080 or the worst I've seen 960x1080 (:(). It's just a way of saving bandwidth, the same as on DVDs and SD DTV, because horizontal resolution is less noticable, so the pixels are made "wider" to compensate.

Thanks Mitsubishi!

Thanks...thats exactly the info I was looking for. I didn't think anamorphic resolutions were a part the the next gen formats.

It's not really needed on blue discs since there is plenty of space, but it's certainly used in HDTV. I don't know much about the HDDVD/bluray specs, I think 1440 is valid on both and 1280 on bluray, but someone who knows will surely be along shortly.

Both are supported on HD DVD at least, although I've never seen anamorphic used in a studio title. I have seen it in some user-generated DVD-R HD DVDs coming from HDV (1440x1080) or DVCPROHD (1280x1080), since there's no point in scaling up.
