After getting my DVD Burner,a modular bay, I am unable to use the previous one- which is also a Moduler Bay ( CD W/RW + DVD ROM) drive.

Is there any way I can use both drives smiultaneously- I'm thinking of hooking up the old drive via usb port with the help of some special cable. I don't want that drive lie idly

Thanks :)

My laptop: Dell Inspiron 8600

you might be able to get a mini ATAPI to USB adapter, but I've never seen one. It would probably be easier (albeit larger and more complex) to get a standard 5.25" dvd burner, and mount it in an external USB enclosure..

Thanks for the tip, Blue_MiSfit. Can anyone please advise where I can get that 'mini ATAPI to USB adapter'? Any other idea/ source info will be very helpful :)

I bought this a couple of months ago: http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/ProductInfo.asp?WebProductID=550155

It's like an all-in-one internal-to-external connector, and has the 44-pin IDE connector (aka mini-ATAPI) you need.

Hope this helps. :)

Thanks a lot I_S. Hopefully, I can use it to operate the modular bay externally (slightly pricey though).

Cheers :)

If you think £20 is expensive, full-blown caddys are anything from £15 to £50, and typically only connect one type of device. So I consider this a steal. ;)
