Codec(s) for fresh WindowsXP pro

Can you tell me when i install WindowsXP Pro what codec(s) should only install?(so i can play allmost every video file)?? and i would like to use Media Player Classic for playing video, and Foobar2000 for audio files. Or you suggest another video player?

If there is an answer for my question allready in another thread please post link to it!

That should enough to play pretty much everything.

MPC is a great player and can decode a few formats all by itself. The newest builds can even do h.264.

FFDShow (http://ffdshow-tryout.sourceforge.net/) is capable of decoding just about everything and is the one you want first. Not all formats are on by default though, so you will have to go into options.

If you want to use other players Haali Matroska splitter is also required, can of course also be used with MPC.

Really with those you are good to go, maybe quicktime/real alternative if required.

Doesn't foobar use it's own plugins for format support?

Now i think that the best solution is to install ffdshow, then haali media splitter (this is for subtitles right??, if not please explain what that program do), and MPC.

Haali's splitter is for reading .mkv .mp4 and .ogm files. It works a bit better than the internal splitters of MPC.

MPC has an internal subtitle filter. As alternative you can use either VSFilter or ffdshow's subtitle option.
