Copying..hard drive or on the fly?

Just wondered if anyone could come up with a definitive answer (if there is one...)
Whats the good way to copy a film onto a blank dvd ?
Is it to rip 1st to the hard drive,then to disc? Or using my double drive,do it on the fly ie straight from the source to the blank dvd?
Im not bothered about the time factor,just want to know which way produces better copies...is there any difference?
