What is the different between Wide or Letterbox subtitles?

Hello to you all,

Can somebody tell me what the different is between wide or letterboxed subtitles? Yesterday I have converted a movie and I had to select wich kind of subtitles I want. So I choosed Dutch subtitles and selected wide. But what is the different?
