What's the best capture card under $300?

well, there´s a german manufacturer called vidac currently selling two types of boards:
- a personal videorecorder
- and a movie board
both are based on the same hardwarebase. well the first on has an onboard tuner and the movieboard has improved editing and transcoding capabilities.
the first one costs about 299 EUR, the second one about 369 EUR...
so have a look at www.vidac.de but the site does not support english yet, however you can send your request via email...

just a word, i ve tested hw rev. 2.3 of pvr and 2.5 of the movie etd. well in current state the software and the card is running pretty stable most part ;-) and has a wonderfull perfomance (well it can do realtime encoding and transcoding in dvd-quality up to 9000bps!) and the quality is ok to me...

if anyone is interested i can post a view testfiles somewhere...

Thanks, I guess I should have put in a little more information about what I wanted to do with the card. I am wanting to capture my VHS collection at the best quality possible from a VHS source and burn to SVCD. I might eventually get a DVD burner so I can get 2 movies (or maybe 4 on double sided media)on one DVD.
I haven't used my German skills in a few years... this is going to be fun...

well, this is exactly what i intent to use this card for...and well, to be short, it works...but be warned, your vhs sources should be of good quality...it like everywhere else: garbage in -> garbage out...

and well: if you have probs or more questions...ask me...and i´ll see what i can do...

..oh btw...imho you should use simple cd-r media because they are a lot cheaper (at leased here in germany) cd-r 700: 0,35 EUR, dvd-r 4,7 G: 17 EUR...
...well depending on the type of source: you can put about 45-50min on a cd-r...so one disc for tv-series od 2 to 3 discs for movies is acceptable (ihmo)...
