View Full Version : Alternative encoder to MeGUI?

Hi all,

I apologise for asking such a basic question but haven't got a lot of experience with x264 and the amount of information here and there is overwhelming.

Is there any alternative to MeGUI? I hate the fact that I need to pass through so many stages in order to convert an MPEG-2 file into h264 for ipods (d2v, avs, multiplexing and so on). Quality is very important for the project I'm working on and I am quite familiar with specs but I do not have so much time for setting all parameters every time as I have to encode a few hundreds of 50Mbps MPEG-2 files.

The output requirements are: h264, 700Kbps, 2-pass encoding, 640x480, 25fps with aac-lc @ 160Kbps

Many thanks in advance.

try RipBot or AutoMKV

Or StaxRip.

But once you have MeGui setup with a audio profile, video profile and script profile then one-click is very fast. So if you want to do all these videos the same way you only need to set it up once.

Another option would be Avidemux, which is very easy to use for encoding 1 at a time

But if you have hundreds to encode, I would stick with Megui because of it's queue - you could just set it and encode overnight

don't forget RipBot264

a valid application, with batch system

All good choices, but one more vote for AutoMKV.

You should give Avidemux a try ! You can set the encoder as high as possible while retaining your aimed size, and contrary to Megui, the GUI is extremely self-explanory and logical.
