View Full Version : Having mkv/ogm probs in MPC that aren't had in WMP11

I'm having a few difficulties with some ogm/mkv files -- that I'm NOT having with Windows Media Player.
Specifically, regardless of my selections, the subtitles which are included in files are not displayed. MPC does not trigger or filter through directshow subs, though WMP11does. Also, in many files with multiple vorbis streams, MPC does not allow me to choose the stream, and instead plays them all concurrently (though, again, WMP11 does not do this). When this happens, the Haali splitter is not activated (though it is in WMP11, also). The audio stream problem is independent of the Dshow filter used. Normally, my MPC uses AC3Filter and WMP uses FFDshow, but switching on either does not rectify (or duplicate) the problem. The video works fine in either case.
I would be happy to give more details if needed. My computer is up-to-date in drivers, software, and hardware. This problem is only happening in *some* ogm/mkv's -- my codecs and filters are fine and play other multi-audio mkvs just fine. Subtitles have never worked for me in MPC, however. WMP starts up DirectVobSub np.
For the record, MPlayer has no problems with either audio or subtitles, either. Just MPC. Fresh "install" of MPC doesn't help -- neither does switching between old (Gabest) version and the new version. The HC version has the same problems (all of the "Navigate" menu is still greyed out and the audio plays concurrently...)

Disable MPC internal filters (Matroska and OGG) so it can use haali splitter, also use haali renderer/vmr9/evr custom presenter if possible. Also, I prefer to use mpc's internal subtitle renderer over vobsub but thats up to you.

The MPC internal filters ARE off. It's not giving me audio options where I can normally choose my audio stream. That whole menu is greyed out, including subs as well.

Can you provide a sample video file?

If you are using Haali's splitter, then there should appear a white icon with an omega symbol in your tray icon during playback. Right-click on that icon to switch audio/subtitle streams.

Apparently, I am not being nearly specific enough...
1) When playing an OGM file, the Haali media splitter does not start up. As such, my option for switching audio streams or picking subtitles should be found under the Navigate menu in MPC. That menu, however, is greyed out. Worse, MPC plays EVERY audio stream concurrently. This happens regardless of what Dshow filter is being used, or if MPC is using internal codecs. This happens REGARDLESS of the OGM file. It happens if I make my own or if I torrent it. It happens with ALL OGM files, with literal hundreds to choose from. Playing the same files with either MPlayer OR Windows Media Player 11 (yes, I shudder, too, but it's my only ffdshow option right now!), this problem does NOT exist. Both of those programs let me pick my audio stream effectively.
2) When playing ANY file with subtitles (whether packaged in the file or outside the file), MPC does not display the subtitles. The options are currently at their defaults in MPC options for subtitle display, but I have played around with every permutation of them, and none work. With either WMP11 or MPlayer (via SMPlayer or command-line), the subtitles display just fine; in WMP11, they display via DirectVobSub. MPC has this problem with BOTH ogm and mkv files, though the sound works fine in mkv files. Again, this is true of many, many files from different encoders, including myself (and I know I'm doing it right; I've also tried different methods).
I'm running Windows XP SP2. I've tried the old MPC (Gabest), the new MPC, and MPC-HC; the problems are always the same. Because the file doesn't "install," I don't know if there's some registry entries I should be deleting between trying different versions or whatever, but I have no idea why this problem is limited to MPC...

@Xodarap
the registry settings (if you're not using ini file mode) are in
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Gabest\Media Player Classic
Now if mpc is not using haali splitter is because it's using it's internal splitter for ogg and matroska or it's using other splitter then haali.
Anyway try this package (http://pwp.netcabo.pt/kado/mpc_hc_rev373.rar).
Inside you have MPC HC rev.373, my registry settings and a custom logo.
Delete you registry settings then merge the ones provided (when mpc is not running).
Run MPC HC and try again.
You'l also require haali splitter/renderer (http://haali.cs.msu.ru/mkv/) and ffdshow tryouts (http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=173941).
If you get double subtitles either disable the internal renderer or directvobsub, I use the internal renderer.
If haali splitter is being used, in the filters menu you'll get the properties part for the file, like this:

If multiple audio streams are played simultaneously then you probably have disabled the internal audio switcher in MPC. See Options -> Internal Filters -> Audio Switcher.
I suggest that you delete the registry key "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Gabest". That way all settings will be reset to the defaults.

As I suspected, deleting all the registry keys was all I needed to do. From Gabest down, and now everything works beautifully... Yay! :thanks::thanks::thanks:
